I saw that ad, I thought it was sand, and considering the wording of the ad figured it was some sort of sand buggy like that Baja thing

I had one, and actually raced it to a 2nd place finish. That is till I sold it a few weeks ago.
The plus's: Tamiya quality, attention to detail. Shocks are the best in the business, and its pretty darn light.
The Con's: Does not have a slipper! What it has is a limited slip ball diff (not the same thing), and a biggie.....only 2 pinion choices available 17T, and optional 19T. You MUST use tamiya pinions too. I had to sell it because my track is going brushless, and gearing choices are key. Otherwise if you can live without a slipper, and very limited gear choices its a great buggy.

If Tamiya does come out with a 2wd competition buggy that has the quality and tunability of the 501x, I would be beyond sold. Can't wait if it is true.

At some point....I just like the idea of a dialed Tamiya buggy. I do like the rb5 though.

The truck your thinking of is probably the Dyna Blaster which was released in 1994 (I owned one), similar to the Dyna Storm (I owned one) pictured above.. Anyway, the DT02MS is a piece of monkey crap and is not the TRF buggy people are testing/talking about ATM..

This is
