I must agree. This is a great thread!

Looks like a lot of people are running the Mamba Monster Max. I have been recommended to stay away from the MMM from local racers that didnt have good luck with it but I read that a Version 3 just came out. I am debating between the following ESC/motor combos:

1. MMM/NEU 1512 2.5D
2. 1/8 scale Losi Xcelorin/1700Kv combo.
3. MMM/Hacker E50 mot0r

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Default Just finished

I decided to go a temporary route. I am waiting for the Tekin R8 ESC.

Until then I am running the following:

1. Losi 8ight buggy
2. Losi 8ight E conversion kit
3. Losi 5000mah 14.8v battery
4. Tekin R1 ESC with two 25v 1000uf capacitors
5. Losi 2000mah, 7.4v lipo receiver pack
6. Medusa 36 60 2000kv motor with factory heat-sink.

I am running the 15t mod 1 pinion that came with the
losi kit but have a 13t long shank pinion on order.

Test run was successful. Fast,, wheelies, motor barely got warm in 10 minutes. ESC was at 5 LED's. No fan, but running 8ight E body that has four holes from the factory.

What pinion do you guys recommend. How many LED lights do you think is acceptable on the R1? Is a fan recommended?

I have been thinking of converting my 8ight. This thread is a big help. I do have a few questions though.

I see more people in this thread are using the RCPD conversion than the Losi conversion. Is there any reason for this?

Are you guys all running a single 14.8V Lipo or 2 7.4V Lipos?

The price of the batteries is really the big reason not to convert. Seem there are only 2 options; the really expensive Losi Hard cased battery with a 25c rating or the cheap soft batteries with a 15c rating.

Also I think this is the "new" thing in off-road racing so I would think there is a lot of new products in the works. Maybe some 100% engineered electric 1/8 scale buggies. Also I live/race in Japan and this hasn't caught on much yet on this side of the Pacific.

nsr250repsol,

RCPD makes a high quality conversion kit. When you choose the Ultimate battery tray it provides a very clean installation.

I have used both a single 4s 14.8v battery and I have tried 2 x 2s 7.4v batteries (wired in series) and the single battery has a lower center of gravity due to the reduction of packaging.

My crystal ball tells me that we are on the verge of higher C rated batteries being released (between now and the spring). Until now 25c were the top discharge rate but before the spring we will see 30 and 35c become available at the same prices as the current batteries or even lower. When choosing batteries I would rather have a TRUE 4s pack which is made up of 4 battery cells wired in series as apposed to a 4s pack which is made up of 8 battery cells which are wired 2s 1P.

I am here to deliver good news to ya. Lipos are no longer expensive!!! search the Zippy packs from hobbycity.com. You can buy 3 packs from this place (Hong Kong) for the price of one pack out here. And these packs are of good quality!!!
