novak xbr or gtb??
Hello all I just read through about 15 threads on the xbr versus gtb.. I'm looking into setting up an AE b4.. I have lrp tc spec esc's in my touring cars and 1 gtb as well.. Will I be losing much performance with the xbr esc over a gtb? I'm going to use one of my 13.5 ss motors with the optional 13mm rotor..
I won't be going over a 10.5 for any other setups..
Any and all info would be much appreciated...

every single super sport (7) and 3 of the 4 xbr's our shop has sold have all gone up in smoke. literally!! one of the xbr's went up like a roman candle!! just something to think about. I would try the lrp ai if you want to go cheap. the gtbs have also been real reliable. just my .02

The 13 mm rotor didn't make much difference for a couple of us with the 13.5 ss pro. Two other were mad that they bought the rotor. But when I put it in the 7.5R...OMG!!! That thing was crazy! The stock 7.5R is wild, but with the 13mm rotor....hold on. LOL. That is if you can get the power to the ground.

If you can afford it, get the gtb w/ lipo cutoff. Just in case you want to do something different later you don't need to get a new esc. I see people say they will not go overboard and in a week, they got all the top of the line stuff. (something about getting smoked by someone that has better equipment than you?)
GTB will have a higher resale value so you will get your money back if you sell.

I run the XBR's with no issues but I did replace the miniscule capacitor it came with for the ones on my old GT7's. I ask Weiss about doing that and he said it is no problem and you may gain a little performance out of it that way. I don't run anything but 13.5 or 10.5. So I was not worried about going to a hotter motor.

the capacitor cost $10-$12 plus you have to put it on. The GTB comes w/ cap and a fan. The fan costs $20. so there is $30 saving if you get the GTB. for the money, it is not much more to get GTB.

For me I had the caps lyin around and I don't use a fan for I only run 13.5's and the speedo does not even get warm. If I were running the XBR in a sedan I may think about getting a fan, but no need for the dirt cars at all. If he is only going to run 13.5 and 10.5 he has nothing to worry about and does not need the GTB. The guys I run with have GTB's and Sphere's and I don't feel I am giving anything up to them at all. If he decides he wants to run something faster then an 8.5 he can upgrade later. The XBR has lipo cut off as well.

I use the XBR in my truck and the GTB in my buggy. I see and feel no difference in performance when using an 8.5. The reason I even went with the GTB in the buggy was just to have the ability to run more motor in it later should I ever need to. At my local track anything over 7.5 in 2wd is probably just overkill anyway.

Great input everyone.. I ended up picking up an xbr.. It was $70 cheaper than a gtb from my LHS.. I have 4 of the lrp tc spec speed controllers in my touring cars.. I didn't need another high end esc.. The biggest motor they allow in 2wd at the local track is a 10.5 and even at that its a little overkill.. If I had a 4wd it would be a different story..
Straightaway.. I don't feel bad if guys with better equip beat me.. It just means they are better drivers.. I'm not sure that the gtb is that much better than the xbr I just got either.. It hasn't gotten even warm yet without the fan with my 13.5ss with the 13mm rotor geared at 28/76...
