Default exploding battery

I have a gtb with 3.5 and I was using a venom 3300. I jsut got done charging the battery and put it in the car. I made one pass and the battery exploded. This is a brand new battery used 1 other time. Why did it explode.

You need to run quality cells when running a 3.5, either IB or EP cells (and lipo). Venom cells won't hold up to that much amp draw.

That Venom was a sport pack right? The matched cells are built for something like a 3.5, but the sport/stick packs aren't made for that kind of power. Is anything else ok?

The Venom batteries are about as low end as you can get.

Sorry I couldnt resist, all of those damn master card holiday commercials.

Seriously though, the 3.5 is one of the fastest, hottest motor out there. Venom batteries are one of the cheapest batteries / cells out there.

They just cant handle the draw that the 3.5 pulls. This caused the cells to way over heat, and blow up.

When running a high end motor, you need a high end battery. If you upgrade to lipo or high end matched cells, this wont happen a second time.

Good luck, and sorry about the wise crack above.

A Nimh battery blew up last night in the pits, Sounded like a gunshot !

I was racing and was like WTF was that ! I stopped turned around and then it caught on fire. Some nice madness to watch. Cost me a 43 second lap ..... about 2.5 laps finished second. Lipo fires will be interesting to say the least.

I had a similar experience with a venom pack. I built a dual mamba 5700 4x4rustler/pede and after one pass battery blew, sounded like a gunshot. Changed to a 2s Lipo or a quality nimh pack and it solved the problem. And yes the truck is stupid fast!

You can run the hottest motor made but if you don't have the batteries to back it up then it won't be so hot.

It wasn't my battery, I was racing and it happened to somebody in the pits (Pits are located behind and below the drivers stand). I still don't know what happened but i am definitly sure it's a violent situation if your battery fails.

Yes it is. Small gunshots is about the best desription. Or a large firecracker. We had a large race a month ago with like 100 entries or something. A couple high up sponsored AE and Losi drivers too. Big Dogs. Anyways, there was a total of 5 different people that had batteries blow up. None blew up in the vehicles though. They were in the pits. When mine went it was charging (6.5) amps. I know two had just been discharged on trays and were awaiting to be charged when they went. Not sure about the other two. No injuries though.
