Default Question about Lipo's ????

I have been looking around for lipo packs for my Mamba powered T4 (6900) and my B4 (5700). I had pretty much decided I was going to buy these:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXLXR6&P=ML

I am new to Lipo. I really liked the idea of the Lipo being in a hard case. It seems safer at least. However it was suggested to me to buy the Max Amps Lipo's instead. These are what was suggested to me:

http://www.maxamps.com/Lipo-10000-74-Pack.htm

They are both about the same money but the Max Amps pack seems like twice the battery. But no hard case. What do you think ? I would like some opinions from peeps that have experience with lipos.

Thanks

Default max amps 10000

you will have to modify or make a new battery hold down strap for the max amps 10000. it's too tall.

We have guys at our track that have been running hard case and non cased lipo's for 3 years, neither have ever created a problem. You might want to check with your racing place too, our indoor track mandates the hard case. I have heard the argument that the hard case doesn't let the heat out that the battery makes ?? I don't know about that.

i just bought a 6400 MAH 2S2P 7.4 V soft case lipo from truerc, com. It's $80 and will go right in without any modification.

I've read that some of the PRO truck 20 min main guys run these.

I would look at the Orion packs for two reasons, 1 the hard case and two their reputation. They've been around a while developing quality and proven products. Besides, they just look good

I have been running these for just over a month with zero issues, theyre inexpensive, stand behind theyre products with top notch quality, there's alot of guys here running them.

Get two of these for one of the other brands price... I've run the Orions before and they are good also.

^^ Its stated on most packs in mah....

Note that lipo`s have around 20-30% more run time for the same mah compared to nimh cells, i am getting longer run times and a lot more power from my Orion 3200 carbon packs than i was getting from similar priced 4200 matched high voltage cells.....

I have been running the Maxamps 6000's for over a year now. Not one problem what so ever. You don't need the hard case. It takes allot to try and blow one of those up. In fact, maxamp tried doing one, one day with an ice charger. No matter what setting they put it on, they couldn't damage the pack bad enough. Eventually they had to hook it up to a real 12v car charger, and let it go. It took quite awhile, but eventually they got it to blow up. The case wont help, and in fact could make it worse. You would know what I mean if you made bombs as a kid too.

I would say at a minimum, check and see what others are running around you for lipo, and there impressions.

If safety if foremost on your mind, then you should also give the LiMN technology from Apogee and the A123 packs a look. Safest being the A123s. I know A123 has some packs coming that should the B4 and T4 much better than the current ones (seen pics of them in the TA05 IFS test RC Driver did). Since you run mod, the lower voltage 6.6V is moot point since you can go up in motor power.
