Popularity of 4WD
 

4WD buggies are becoming one of the most popular electric classes and more and more competition kits are coming out from everywhere. Hopefully soon manufactures will realise this and someone will bring out a 4WD Stadium Truck. I don't think 4wd was very popular all those years ago becuase of the price of the kits and there was only 2 kits out. Who here would like to see a 4wd stadium truck class?

Two ways to look at this. Cool, new class or a dilution of the existing classes. I think it would be kinda cool but not at the expense of existing classes. On-road is dying in part because of this very thing. One question, though...belt or shaft?

Well 4wd isn't a new class... many who are getting one of the new cars and racing have run them before. I think it will probably pull some guys away from running mod truck as a 2nd class.

The average hardcore/experienced racer runs mod buggy... it's "the" class. Truck and 4wd are the "other" classes... the 2nd and 3rd class.

But of course there are some who don't run buggies.. they run stock or mod truck and 4wd if there is anyone to race with. But it might mean they only run one truck class instead of both.

Offroad 4wd is the most fun you can have running 1/10 cars....

Not trying to split hairs, but "4wd truck" would be a new class. But you are right. The big boys play in the mod 2wd buggy class. If you can wheel one, you can throw anything down on any track, on or off-road, and do reasonably well.

No, please not another class. Whats the point? US only runs trucks as it is, no need for the manufs to spend money into another "dead-end" segment of the market that is already hurting, at least in my area. There are no local tracks for electric in San Diego, and the best one in L.A. is closing.

I think the original idea is a class of 1/10 truck that can run more easily on the same tracks that 1/8 and truggy are running on. 2 years ago there were no truggies and look at it now. Whether or not there is room for another class is entirely up to the racers and their interest. There was a class called heavy metal years ago that was basically 1/10 4wd buggies with truck bodies and stock motors. It sounds slow but with the slower speeds and traditional small wheels it could be interesting to race them on bigger, blown out 1/8th tracks. One would need an acute sense of line selection. :nod:

Tracks open and close not because of dliution of classes, its because of money. Another class may not hurt anything especially a 4wd truck class. The "class" to beat or to be in is 2wd buggy, Thats where the big dogs play.

I would buy a 4wd truck because I would have a great time with it. I had a blast with my revo except for the fact that It was nitro, Im just not a nitro fan. I bought a t4 because it was a truck and they didnt make a 4wd.

4wd truck is a good idea and it may just fill a niche market. As for watering the other classes down? I dont think that will happen enough to make a difference.

DIllution of classes has a bigger effect than you realize. When there are too many classes you will have say 6 cars per class and it's not interesting enough to keep them coming back. If you limit classes the classes you offer become more competitive and it helps to sustain interest. Nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd.

I said it before and I'll say it again. What good is a "podium finish" if you're only racing two other people? Class dilution can be directly linked to smaller attendance numbers at tracks all across the country. But regardless, a 4wd truck would be fun to play with.

What about it? Hasn't been made in years and wasn't that popular. Being belt driven and fragile it didn't sell to well. Now if HPI bought out one based on the MT2 that is shaft driven would be sweet basher

Fragile? :weird: That thing was a battering ram. I think I only ever broke one arm on mine and I beat that thing silly.
