Motor Brush Breakin?

Hey guys, I have a few questions about breaking in new brushes on a cobalt 27T motor. I got new brushes and wasn't sure if I have to break them in? Would just a few slow laps around the local track due? I also have the Duratrax ICE charger, it has a motor breakin function is that something that I would use to breakin brushes? If so how many volts for how long?

thanks, mike

break the new brushes in at 2 volts for 2 minutes. That should be fine.

Some poeple take out the motor's and soak it in water but idk if it work's good bcz im pretty much all nitro...

I just broke mine in by rebuilding it then running a battery pack through it on the track. And let it cool down and your fine.

My Co27 says to break in at 2 volts fro 8 min. That is what I have been doign using my ICE and it's been working great.

Personaly I break my motors in at 3 volts for 10 minutes on new brushes and 3 to 5 to just reseat them after a comm skim. I find it better reflects the actual track performance that the motor is capable of when dyno testing.

Is it required to break in brushless?

Only if your retarded.

gearheadz80,

Yes you want the brushless to completely seat against the com.

I do not believe in a set voltage and run in time, but the general rule is the harder the brush the longer it will take to run in, imho.

BuggyKing 10-26-2007 09:05 AM

A harder brush like silver brushes run the com out faster be careful.

For a CO27, you should break it in for 5 minutes (300 sec.'s). Don't worry about re-skimming the com. Then just go out and race it. If your on-road racing at a big race you might want to skim the com after break in.
