4wd car with a 540 silver can motor would be the easiest combination to learn on. Are tyres and rims interchangable with other makes. Any help would be appreciated.
Hey my 2 cents is start with truck the zx-5 is a great wheeler but any wheeler is going to have a ton more maintance than a 2wd and trucks are very durable. I know truck yuk! But my son has beaten it to death on the track and it lets me not have to be pit crew between races for him, compared to running a wheeler.

I have seen the new Kyosho RTR it is a good buggy. Add a few upgrades and it is good to go.

Default Schumacher Cat 3000

You should take a look at one of these !!
They are pretty easy to find parts for and hella fast !!
Can still get parts through www.racing-cars.com believe it or not.
A bit dated but you can get one on ebay for almost nothing.

Default 4wd

The three 4wds that I would reccomend would be the X-5 or the BJ4 or even the B44 when it comes out.

I have not seen any Schumacher Cat 2000s or 3000s on ebay in a long time.

Kyosho uses a 12mm hex for their rims. I do not believe a lot of other cars use this style. Academy uses 12mm hex too, but someone has said that the offset on wheels is different between the two cars.

That makes two of us! I am researching different 4wd buggies that are suitable to stick packs or can be modified to use stick packs. I read about a X-5 and the X-5 squared and how people are modifying it for stick packs.

Also been doing research on the Kyosho ZX5.

with regards to choosing a 4wd:

If you want a straight battery config:

You cant go past the Kyosho ZX-5. Its relatively cheap and highly competitive behind the right set of controlling hands. Parts support is cheap and you can buy directf rom Kyosho America and top shelf online shops like A-Main.

Second Choice would be an original Jconcepts BJ4 (you can always upgrade to the World Spec if you want to go saddle later)

If you want a saddle pack config, then theres a few more choice to be made, as Saddle config seem to be the accepted flavour these days..

So. my pick would be:

1. Yokomo MR-4BX (any version). Belt drive for smooth power delivery, adjustable centre one way and very very Strong car. Only weakness is the exposed diffs... But all you need are some Shadow Antichoke™ covers (available at www.teamadrenaline.net) and it will delay the next rebuild a lot longer than running it uncovered.

2. Jconcepts BJ4. We all know bout this car, so not gonna dance the Victory laps here. and the guys over at JConcepts ROCKS.

3. Associated B44. Yet to be available, its the production model of the BJ4. Current Worlds winning platform. Nuff said.

4. Hotbodies D4. Proving to have a lot of potential, some say a BJ clone... but its cheap, drives and behaves similar to a BJ and good parts support. Problem: weak diffs.

I thought they have a diff upgrade for the D4 that should have fixed the original problem they were having?

they have, and over here at our local races, people are still blowing diffs running brushless with the new part.

Also, another fix is to use the yokomo BX diff nut, screw and thrust balls / washers.. even then its still blowing up.

What exactly do you think the problem is? The diff is a basic design, and is most like the others out there. I wonder why it won't hold up. I was thinking of getting a D4, but I had thought the problem was fixed! Darn.

Most of the time, its ppl not shimming the bevel gears correctly, and its stripping / catching and exploding diffs. Once this is done they are generally better.

What it is? I cant really say...as I dont own a bevel geard 4wd.

But then again, some have had good luck with their D4's

I agree that most of the time it is the shimming. I experieced a similiar problem with my SBV2 Pro, but nothing as bad. You really gotta check on the shimming after a few runs and reshim once the gears have broken in.
