I've been stripping the wheel hexes in my 4wd front wheels. I put on a new set of wheels, I ran the car twice, and when I went to take them off, the hex on the axle had rotated half way through the hex on the wheel. Other times, the wheel hex strips completely and the wheel loses drive. The wheel nuts were brand new and tightened down real well.

is there any play in the wheels when they are tightened down?

if your talking the losi type front axel as used on xx4, xxx4, bj4 the standard nuts will ground out on the end of the axel.

there are 2 optins run a thin washer between the nut and wheel or attack the back of the nut a little with a dremmel grinding wheel or a countersink. Dont go too mad just enough so the nut can clamp the wheel up fully

Here's a trick for you if you are running CVDs:

Use Associated TC3 stub axles instead of the Losi stub axles. Put one Associated drive shaft spacer (part #7669) between the CVD joint and the bearing carrier (to space the joint the same as the Losi stub axle) and then use the 3/8" wide hex drive from the Losi XXX-S hex drives (part number LOSA3260) as the hex drive. Also use the front wheels with the hex recess rather than the ones with the 12 point recess. This should help. It also gives you more threads to tighten the nut onto.

If you are that hard on your front wheels, you might also consider using 1/16" piano wire for the drive pins instead of the roll pin and holding the pin in the axle with Shoe Goo. The pin will stay put until you want to remove it.
