Go for the Associated RTR B4 buggy. Ready to go and all you need is a battery and charger. Or if he wants a RTR truck then the Assoc T4. Hope that helps.

I would take into consideration what your local hobby shop stocks.. If they only stock Associated and you buy a Losi, you're going to be hosed. Especially if it's a 10 year old who's learning how to drive his first car

I would have to recommend the DuraTrax Evader. These come packed with extra hop-ups right out of the box. I know alot of people don't give DuraTrax any racing credit, but the fact is that the Evader is a very capable race truck.

DuraTrax has a great replacement program for the 1st year which will replace any part that is broken for any reason! That should save the pocket book a bit!

TowerHobbies has a whole mess of replacement / hop-ups for them as well. The shipping times from Tower Hobbies has been excellent, they are usually at my door 2 days after I place the order.

For the price you can't go wrong!

Check you local hobby shop and see what they stock for parts. Most race tracks/hobby shops stock a lot of Losi and AE parts. Losi and AE have the best track record for racing. Good luck with racing

Talking traxxas

also the traxxas rustler is a basic rtr that could be considered one of the toughest available.the latest brushless version can be limited to half throttle for beginners etc as well and comes with a huge list of option parts.

I second the B4 RTR. I have one and I love it. It can take a beating. I would just recommend replacing the turnbuckles. Get titanium. So far thats the only part that I have broken.

Since this is for racing, the RC10T4 would be a great option. I would however make sure that you get him:

1. RPM Large Front bumper
2. If not on it, the Aluminum front hingepin brace
3. Titanium turnbuckles

Main reason for the bumper is that the front Arms can be alittle suspect, even in the plastic versions. The RPM large bumper does a good job protecting them. You could also try running the RPM GT2 a-arms on the truck, but they can be alittle too flexible. But that may be what he needs.

The losi trucks can be good too no doubt, I am just a fan of AE and like the fact that the various T4 versions as similar other than part material and the Losi versions seem to have different style trannys, etc. from the XXXT RTR, to the MF2, and now the XXXT CR.

But, they are all capable.

IF I WERE YOU I WOULD GO WITH THE RC10B4 BECAUSE, THERE ARE NO E CLIPS TO MESS WITH. ALSO PARTS ARE EASY TO FIND.THERE IS ALSO THE RC10T4 WITCH IS THE TRUCK. I RECOMED THE TRUCK BECAUSE IT'S GOOD FOR STARTERS AND THEIR ESAY TO DRIVE. WHEN I STARTED I GOT A RC10B4 AND IT GOT ME TO THE SPORTS MAN STOCK CLASS. THEN I GOT A FACTORY TEAM B4. IT'S GREAT. THE TRUCK WILL DO THE SAME. SO IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A GOOD CAR FOR STARTERS THE RC10T4 IS THE WAY TO GO.

I think this is the best option. Parts are available almost everywhere and it will make a great first racer. Set ups for this car are readily available and most people at the track will know how to tune.
