ae T4
Hey everyone,
I'm pretty new to the electric racing, but past 3-4 yrs did mostly nitro. Anyway, I have a T4 that I want to start racing also but want to get a motor that will stay competitive. Also picking out a spur and pinion gear to match.

If you raced nitro you'd probably like the mod class better. I raced gas truck for a couple years before getting a T4. After running stock class for awhile I was ready to off the thing. Then I put a brushless and 6.5 motor in it and it was every bit as wild and fun as my gas truck was. I've since went with a 7.5 motor to make it more easy to drive but it's still fast and fun. Mod class is the way to go IMO if there's a class of it.
Like said above 19-22 and you should be good for pinions. I've never changed out the stock spur.

If you want to race stock (not brushless) and not spend a ton of money I would recommend a Novak GTS speed contrtol and a tuned Cobalt (Co27) motor. Spur/pinion is kind of up in the air but the stock 87T spur with a 20 pinion is probably a good place to start and go up or down on the pinion from there to suit your track and motor. If you end up with a higher RPM motor like a Monster or Epic X (not my first choice for dirt) then maybe start lower on the pinion - 19 maybe 18. Again, ,it is kind of trial and error but I think this is a good starting point.
