Default xxx-4 help

Hey guys, I just got my xxx-4 in and put all the electronics in. Im having a few problems; The motor is getting hot, and it nosedives bad...Im not sure if it is normal for the front diff to be really tight and the rear to be really loose, but they are and the slipper for the rear is super light...any help is appreciated...

For the motor getting hot... what gearing and what motor?

It nose dives: I'm guessing it does this when you jump the car? 4WD buggies jump different than 2wd buggies, play with the throttle in the air, you'll get the hang of it.

front diff tight, back loose: I set mine at about the same, have you tried to re-adj. them like the manual says. Diffs have a break in period and have to be re-tightened after 1 or 2 runs.

Slipper: I'm not really sure what you mean by " slipper for the rear" and "light"

its almost like its fwd only, if i hold the rear wheels the front spin freely with little resistance on the rear?!?I have that ghetto Method R 15 dbl, slow as hell, 19t pinion and blue spur, not sure of the size by most likely stock.

I highly recomend getting one of the clip on heat sinks. I have an integy on mine, really helped things out. Also do you have the hole above to motor cut out in the body to allow air in, that helps out a bit too. I made mine pretty big. the manual for the G+ says that for a 15T motor you should be running a 23t pinion and a 92 spur.

Under-gearing a motor will have the same affect as over-gearing it.... it will get HOT

Why don't you tighten up your Diffs if it's too loose in the back?

Yeah, you were right on with the diffs, the rear was hardly hangin on. Itys the original xxx-4 with the older style body and it doesent have a motor scoop and doesent seem like a heat sink would fit...

when I use my heat sink I rotate it forward so it fits under the body ( and into the air stream from the scoop)

Sounds good, thanks for all your help... do all xxx-4's have poor steering radius' or is that something else I will have to figure out?

^^^ Its all in the setup, try running a shorter wheelbase ( hubs fowards on the rear end ) and battery back fowards, i have a completley different setup to base as far as camber links etc. go, try playing with the positions of these as well.

Yeah, I moved the shocks to the rear and that seemed to stop it from skipping back and forth in the rough...

It won't turn like a 2wd buggy, all 4wd cars push. If you want it to turn like a 2wd you'll need a one way. Make sure nothing is binding and that you're gettign full servo travel in both directions. Tighten the diffs per the manual until they're just tight enough that the gear doesn't slip when the outdrives are held in place. Be sure your belt is loose enough, it should have about 1/4" or so deflection. Just tight enough so it doesn't skip when accelerating, if it skips a tooth or 2 under braking, no problem. As far as nosing, it sounds like you're slapping the chassis. You can't hit the jumps too hard, you have to roll into them. Esp. with the XXX-4 b/c it's so low. I also run external shock limiters (1 or 2 shock o-rings) on tracks with rough jumps.
