Old Stampede back from the dead!

Hey guys, older school guy here apperently. I have one of the old old style Stampede from about 10 years ago that I just got done dusting off and running again <sorta>

Heres the problem I have:

Some time ago I partially melted the connectors on my charger/esc/ and one of the batteries. I fixed them all (threw the old battery out) and tore the transmission apart (clicking noise....) and tested it out. The battery to esc connector got hotter than what my TC4 connectors get. Any ideas?

Dean's might be in the future but I need to get the clicking to go away and figure out why its getting so hot.

Truck specs:
Midnight 2 motor
Dynamite Power Pulse
Radio Shack 1500 battery

TIA!

clicking nosie i have heard people talk about but no one has ever figured out what it is. The hot motor problem may be your gearing. Deans connectors will help reduce the heat and keep those from melting. Ill try to find out what could cause ur clicking nosie

the clicking noise could be several things, something could be binding, gear mesh is to close, stripped idler gear. Are you sure the clicking is in the tranny? could be servo gears stripped. All things i would check out. Solder you some deans plugs on to you esc and batteries. Solder on some silicone wire liked 12g i think the wires that come on the mambma max esc. Should help the temps go down.

well found a new LHS that stocks all kinds of parts and spent about $70 there today.

Rebuilt the diff with the newer style outdrives (mine had the old screw in the center), rebuilt the shocks, cleaned and lubed the transmission, and adjusted the slipper (had it cranked all the way down), and pulled out the old stock BUSHINGS(!) and replaced them with bb bearings. Hobby shop guy couldn't believe that I had that old of a stampede.

One of these maintance items/upgrades fixed the clicking noise I am happy to report. I'm pretty sure it was the out drives as the holes were elongated and there was alot of play there.

Minus side: bought a 3000 Venom battery and when I started charging it the first time, it started smoking........ back tomorrow to get new rear shocks and get a decent battery!

glad i got it all rebuilt it needed but i am still using the old stampede stuff. I upgraded to a aluminum idler and put a brushless system. Works fine so far and loving the brushless. I am sure rebuilding the diff and changing the outdrive yokes help. I think the clicking was in the tranny though myself. Go to hear get some pics when you can.

Batteries will make a lot of difference in the enjoyment you get out of your Pede. The upgrades available for these things can really tear into your checkbook though. Not much is really "needed" though.

One thing that will save you some cash though is a RPM front bumper.

The upgrades I have done to my son's Pede are

RPM front bumper
extended front arms (Losi LXT)
Nitro Rustler front spindle set up
Nitro Rustler rear bearing carriers
RMP Talonz (made for Nitro Traxxas 2.2 vehicles)
Masher 2000 tires
Sermos added when I bought new Batteries. Cheaper and more finger friendly for the kid than deans
Novak Rooster
15x2 Endurance Racing Products (ERP) motor (I think they are out of business now but this motor was new in '94 and only run in one race before put in storage)
Big Bore shocks
e-clip capture suspension pins and SRT tie bar. This is a great mod and no more messing with those screw type pins and stronger front bulkhead.
There might be more that I have forgotten :weird:

Here is the most recent picture I have. I think all I added after this pic is the SRT Tie bar, Big Bores, and Sermos

honestly the body that is on it I painted when I was 12 and it looks the part (in my defense it was the first body I painted all alone). A quick trip to the LHS or maybe ebay will fix that :) heres a pic of my tc4 to tied ya over as the truck is now 100% back in running order with some new al rear shocks!
