Default AE new 4wd Buggy spotted at SoCal

Sitting right out in the open in the pits at SoCal near the track on Thursday May 25 was an AE engineer with a car that looked so much like the BJ that we at first thought it was one and failed to take photos!

But it's not a BJ and it IS a Team Associated prototype car. Later, on Sunday at the Reedy race, we spoke with AE officials who confirmed that the car exists and said it would not appear at this year's Mod Nats in Albuquerque.

To us it looked very similar to a BJ, with different front diff cover and shock tower, possibly a different 1-way system, and new front arms. It was a flat carbon fiber sheet chassis with shaft drive and a top deck. 3 X 3 saddle packs were in the rear with a longitudinal motor near the center. The shell looked so much like a BJ that it may have actually been a BJ body.

That's really all we know. We were there with Paul and Frank working on several different things on our own cars, We noticed this car, thought it was a BJ, and only confirmed things on Sunday at the Reedy race. We'll put up more info as we get it.

Sounds like is going to be a very nice piece of kit!

Interesting, I wonder how it affects their relationship with Yokomo and the unwritten rule between them.

This is exciting. I've been wanting to buy a 4wd buggy and now I guess I'll have to wait to see how this one does. Maybe the 4wd scene will grow...

It was said that AE would not be making a 4wd buggy until the market for them grew. If this was right then the 4wd off road scene has grown and by the looks of it will continue to grow!

I want too see how it compares with the bj4 on the track!

Well, it looks like Chazz from 4wdrc confirms it even further and goes into detail at the rc10b4.com site

from what i underdstood it, Yokomo was only the distributor for Asia and since AE sold a 1/12 and so did Yokomo i don't think there would be any issue for AE to produce their own 4 wheeler. also as it was posted later in this thread i think this is more a thunder tiger issue and them wanting to be in every major racing class with the designs from area 51. im glad there is going to be a 4 wheeler directly from AE/Thunder Tiger though. it can only help the class grow.

I to heard about that too. Could be Bret Fielke and Ryan testing. Sometimes they do that. I was talking to Cavalieri and he was testing the Orion brushless setup.
