A123 batteries?
 

what are the pros and cons of these batteries? are they worth the money and how many should i get? will the turbo boost thing be worth the $45 to gain it up to 8.4V?

I've been wondering the same thing. If they live up to the hype then I would think so. I am personaly considering picking up a 4600 mah pack and a 2300 mah pack and using them to run w/ nitro trucks. If you aren't running them in an aplication that requires a 6t mod motor then I would think they would be perfect. The motor should generate more punch because of their low resistance and if you need the top end speed then you could just run a slightly hotter motor. Most aplications are easy to over power today so I wouldn't realy think there is a huge need for the voltage booster. If you find there is a need down the road then you can just go and purchase it. The cells are hyped to have the qualitys of lipos w/out the drawbacks so basicly you can charge them in 25 minutes w/ their sonic charger and go run, like 15 for the 2300 mah pack. Not to mention you just take the car off the track when you notice a loss in power so you don't have to worry about voltage cut off. To make a 20 minute main I would just wire the two packs in series and that should get me my 20 minutes of run time.

yeah. i know i dont need the voltage boost, but more power is always fun for bashing as long as your tranny can take it. seems like they are well worth the $100 for a 4600 pack

Not to mention the sonic charger should be able to peak them in plenty of time betwean heats.

Yeah, it will charge them at a constant 10 amp rate so you can figure a complete charge in 14 minutes for the 2300 and a 28 minute charge for the 4300. Most 1/10th scale aplications will average around a 15 amp discharge so you will be looking at around 30 minutes of charge time and 20 minutes of run time w/ the 4300 w/ a good effecient system.

Isn't the comparable maxamps 7.4 volts vs. 6.6 volts A123 Hypersonic Bat.

The A123 is also heavier. The maxamps is 7.4 volts and rated at 30amps continuous.

The a123 cells are the same ones sole by max amps. The a123 cells are rated at like 30 c continous discharge which means the 4600 can discharge at a 138 amp rate and they can be charged at like a 2.3c rate. The lipos can only be charged at a 1c rate and lipos require the end of the charge to slow way down while it peaks the cells. I guess, the differance is that the lipos are lighter, but the a123 cells are much more durable and can be charged much faster. The weight isn't much though. A 4600 pack will still weigh the same if not less then a 6cell pack.

So why are the A123 cells rated at 6.6 volts or whatever.

Because that is how the cells are built. The cells are 3.3 volt cells, you could build a 9.9 volt pack and so on. They sale a piece to convert the 6.6 volt pack in to a 7.2 volt pack, but there realy isn't a need for it unless you actualy need to lay down the full power of a 6 turn motor.

plus they last a lot longer than nimh too. they can have over 1000 cycles without loosing any of their power or anything. seems like this is almost a steal. im deff getting some

If you take care of your nimh cells they will last a long time too, however you only need one of these packs to run your race day you you go from spending $250 for a season of packs to spending $100 for a season of packs.

I got them! They are great, light, holds a charge for 3 days with very little drop. they charge fast. and with two packs you can go all day with out stoping. Here are some vids, of my rusty pede with a Mamba Max 5700 and li-ions 2s2p with no turbo. BTW. you cant use the turbo with BL systems!

The size of them is the only problem with them most cars can't take them. the 2s2p is the same length as a six cell nimh just fatter. you will have to mod out you vehicle to get them to fit...........I wish they would fit in my TA04....

how much wider are they anyways? and why couldnt you use the turbo system with BL? it would still be 8.4V like the limits of most BL systems.

ill admit that your rusty is a rocket. ive said that before. but would the turbo system really make it so you cant use BL?
