Yay, today was my first outing with my conversion:

Running gear:

- Losi 8ight
- Team Tekin R1-Pro with 35v, 2200uf cap.
- CC BEC
- Neu 1512 2,5D/F
- 13/46 gearing

Slight heat problems, gonna install fan this week.

I TQ'd both truggy and buggy. I won truggy and did not finish buggy, my on/off switch on the Monster turned off upon landing the big jump on the front straight. It was still worth the 4.5hr drive. Here are my cars so you can check them out on the link above.
Are u using the 1Y and the enerland 4s on your truggy? If so, can i please have details? Performance, run time, any heat issues? I will be ordering this week, so I need to MAKE sure i get the right thing. I would like to use the 1Y with the Neu Energy 4s 5000mh pack.

Thanks!!!

I run almost the same set up as you except i use a MM and gear it at 12/46.I ran with my friends on saturday and they ran higher gearing with fans and thermaled.I did not run any fans and did not thermal.I ran 2 20 minute sesions. You might just want to gear down 1 tooth.

Yes, I am running the Neu 1515/1Y on a PolyQuest 4s 6000 with a modded Mamba Max geared 13/46. The temperature was in the mid 80's and no clouds. After a 5 min qualifier the motor was 139* the ESC was 116*. With the 6000 I can run for 20min. I have never ran one of my 5000 packs in it for more than 13 to 15 min.

If you run the clutch then you have to run mechanical brakes. That's the setup I was using. I prefer mechanical brakes to ESC brakes, I like having bias control. It's also easier on the motor and ESC to run the clutch and mechanical brakes, albeit slightly more complicated and slightly heavier.
But you can also run long shank pinions with the Tekno conversion for direct drive and use ESC braking if you prefer that, or direct drive and mechanical brakes. Which is great since the majority of people running conversions use direct drive and ESC braking.

The smaller motor usually lowers temps on the ESC and the battery, the motor temps are about the same. Again, going too small on the motor won't work, the motor won't be able to pull the car around the track.

Thanks for the info!!!

By the way, what is a good temperature for the motor and ESC? At what point is it considered to hot?

I was thinking of getting the Neu Energy 4s 5000. I hear they area as good as other 6000MAH pacs.

170* should be the max for either one.I don't like to see my motor over 150* and the ESC over 140* The Neu Energy packs seem to be very good.

@ teeforb
You may want to look at getting a 1512 2.5D for your 4s setup. It's a great motor, draws 30 less amps then the 1515 1Y, and will still be plenty powerful and fast for your truggy. You'll shave some weight, get longer run times, and cooler temps. For comparison, my 1515 3D on 6s spins at 30,192 rpm's (max), my 1300kv Medusa (what I won the main with) on 6s spins at 28,860 rpm's (max), and the 2.5D on 4s spins at 30,340 rpm's (max). (rpm's done by using 3.7v per cell)
I bring this up because we'll be running on the same track so you know the motor is fast enough.

I like the 1512/2.5d for buggy, but it lacked the punch I needed in my truggy that is why I went with the 1515/1Y for the torque. That was before I could run 5s, it might be ok on 5s.

Do you mean the 1515 2.5D or the 1512 2.5D as you mentioned?

What about the 1515 2D? It runs at 2050 rpm/v. For a 4s, that's 30,340RMP.

Plus note, i would like to stick with 4S as I will convert the MBX6 when it comes out and I wanna share batteries between the two!!! It seems that the Buggies are staying with the 4S setups, from what I have been seeing.
