I had about 2hrs of runtime on mine , i did the case mod and put one new fan in it so i sure do hope cc gets the MMM figured out ! I think im going to get a MM and a bec to see how that works .

I haven't taken any pictures yet but, I just set up my MMM with an external bec and wired an Integy fan to the receiver. I also put a bunch of holes in the case infront of the caps.

Let's see how she runs tonight.

Thanks for any information.
Go a head and try if you need to... but over and over again in this thread. Guys have concluded that it is not a necessary arrangement. Even NOVAK had their cars set up like that at first and then concluded is was not needed and went away from the design.

That is what I did for now. I canceled my first MMM order and got 2 of the MM's and CCBEC's and they are working great so far. I have not needed to add fans or the novak cap's yet (I did buy them). I am going up a tooth on gearing this weekend so I will see how it goes. Also it was quite cool here @ the night race 2 weeks ago.

Fun Fun,

For big open tracks, 14T works well. If you are on a smaller track then 13 or 12 should be good. I'm running a 14T on 4S, 1512/2D/smooth in an RC8. This is with the 44T spur.

Yes, you can tap into the main battery connection @ any location an it should work fine.

Hey guys, due to some issues that have come up and others that still stuck around, I won't be able to do an RC8 conversion at this time and will be going down to one vehicle for the rest fo the offroad season.

Because of this, I will be selling a variety of conversion stuff, namely the following:

- New RC8 Less fuel tank and motor mount (also has the extra shim kit ready to install, plus the service pack ready to install)

- PolyRC 6000mah 25C 4S pack New, added deans connector

- Variety of Mod1 Pinions, several of them brand new RC Monster ones never ran. Would say the range is from 12T - 19T pinions.

Also, depending if Dan isn't able to do a refund on the RC8 conversion, I will have a New one with two spur gears as well.

I may also sell my 1512 2.5D motor to get a Medusa one as its cheaper (if anyone wants to work a swap on that let me know)

I will also have a variety of tires, etc. for sale too.

Cain,

Email me what pinions you have and brand. I'll probably take them.

Is the 1512 2.5D the old or new style can? Used or new?

Best regards,

TonyScrews: I will do that when I get home. The lower range pinions between 12T - 16T (may not have a 15T, need to check) I have to look at and see what they are as I am not sure. the 17T, 18T, and 19T I just purchased from RC Monster.

As for the 1512, I got it with my MBX5 last year, so it probably the older style with the longer shaft.

(quote)As for battery packs, I have the MaxAmps 4S2P 6000mah HV pack and it is a pinch too tall under the MBX5 body. It pushes it up a bit and I really don't like it. It is also only a 20C pack and with the higher amps the MMM is capable of pulling from the pack you need to be careful not to over discharge the pack ( 80-85% discharge).

maxamps now have 25c packs
Lipo 4200 2S 7.4V Flight Pack
4200mah Capacity
7.4 Volts
45mm X 138mm X 16mm
25C Constant(105 amps)
35C Sustained(147 amps)
60C Burst(252 amps)
231 grams

Hi Puddle,

Yes, braking can be disabled on the ESC and you can then run a Y-splitter or better yet, use throttle mixing to control the brake servo. In air handling and corner entry is greatly improved with the use of a clutch and mechanical brakes. Disengaging the motor from the drivetrain has other benefits as well, like lower temps and lower wear on your components. This is a hot topic of debate, but both setups are viable (mechanical brakes / motor brakes).

I've been really busy lately and haven't been following this thread as close... I finally have all the pieces to fire up my Losi buggy for the first time but I find it crazy my Monster Maxx may fail as soon as I hit the dirt!

Question is: I know the fan shim mod and the dremeling of the bottom case mod, but it just seems crazy to tear into this controller without ever turning it on. Should I run it, have it break, they do the mods or should I just do them before I even solder my Deans plug?!?

According to what has been posted, the mods don't protect against the problem. They are just to help the fan work. According to Castle they should fail in minutes if they are defective; however some on here have run and they failed on the second use, some ran and they failed after a few minutes not immediately. I would say, run and see if you have immediate failure, if not shim the fan and run again. If you are one of the lucky ones, you may not have a failure. If you do, return it and Castle will make it right but now there is a delay while they are waiting on parts.
