I put a new MMM in my 8ight over the weekend. Tried it in the driveway for ~10 minutes on my MaxAmps 4s 6000 pack. No problems, great temps.
Went to the outdoor track today with 2 brand new batteries... Thunder Power 25C 4s5000 and MaxAmps 4s 6000 pack. Both batteries worked great, but at the end of my 3rd run, I checked the temps... Motor 130, MMM 170, MA Lipo 100. DEAD FAN!
Wow, I know I am hard on my car with lots of flips and wrecks, but I don't want to have to replace the fan every time I go to the track.
What is everyone doing to beef up their fans? I bought the heavy duty laptop fans off ebay and they worked great on the MM. Can I use these? I saw a plug on the ESC board on another post, is that the fan?

I've seen plenty of fans killed so I'm not surprised to see some of the MMM ones die too. I don't think they are any more fragile than others... it's just the way it is. Perhaps CC can stock up and sell replacements at a good price. I'd take a 6 pk
Seriously, I'm not going to run a fan on mine in a buggy. I don't on my MM either most of the time.
My fan died sometime during the first raceday too. CC said they were sending me 2 replacements, but they arent here yet and I'm going to practice tomorrow night. So... I have these little 25mm fans lasted better tan any other fan I have found and they move more air than the 30mm that comes in the Monster. I pulled the dead factory fan out and I am strapping the 25mm to the top of the Monster and just pluging it into the reciever like I used to do with the MM. I think this will be easier anyway. When it dies I just clip the zip tie and plug in a new fan and zip tie it back on. No disassembly required. I can feel more air comming out the side vent holes than I can in my other Monster that still has the factory fan so its moving the air just fine. I think it should work.
I replaced my Monster fan with a 30mm Novak fan. Seems to be working ok. My old fan worked, but the connector disconnected from the board so it can't get any power. I just run the Novak fan wires through one of the case vents to the receiver.
When I called Castle, the engineer seemed surprised and disappointed that the entire fan just disconnected from the board. He also said they were out of the fans, so they couldn't send a replacement.
I am starting to think Castle tested the Monster for amp draw and power and put it through the paces from a bashing perspective (running across grass fields and streets at 50+ mph), but I don't think they anticipated the amount of stress track duty puts on the ESC from a durability standpoint. Coming up short on a 30 foot triple at 35 mph can exert quite a bit of g-forces on components.
What's a good/great Lipo charger. I'm looking into picking up a 6S lipo battery and I need your help in choosing a lipo charger?
Nothing beats the Thunder Power 1010c and 210V combo. You can charge at 1-3c (1h normal charge or fast charge a Lipo in 20min.) You also have all the safety of the balancer comunicating to the charge in real time, slowing the charge or terminating the charge if there is any problems. Plus you can look at individual cell voltages and over all health of batteries. They also have software for other battery types too if needed. I love the storage charge feature too. I 1/2 charge all my packs at the end of every session.
ya so here it is with the new paint and some new hardware with it.
took first place in open electric with the el-8.
gotta thank the sponsors:
MAXAMPS- of course, thanks guys!

Nice job! So you raced the nitrocross with your electric and won huh.... I'm sure there wasnt any complaining from the nitro guys about that.
I might try and make the event on June 22nd at the dirtdawgs track too. (of course I wont be winning anything like you )
EDIT: OK I just re-read that post. I didnt know they had an open electric class for this or I might have gone up for the race. At first I thought you were running with the nitros. I'm gonna see about getting to the rest of the races. How many electrics were competing?
sorry to just chime in the thread like this but theres too many pages to go over and i dont have time but here goes.
i am interested in the novak hv pro 4.5 brushless system where you get the motor and the speedo together and was wondering for any one who knows this speedo motor combo is it the fastest novak to get? and what lipo batteries should i get for it to be at its best like what batteries are gonna set it alight without blowing it? and do you know where to get these batteries from? any help is much appreciated thankyou.
i am converting my xb8 tq (xray) and want to get it as fast as it can go with a brushless. yall should know what i mean hehe who dont want all the power in the world.

the novak 4.5 is a bad choice for buggies. It won't stand up and will over heat! Almost everyone is now running mambas and Nues for more durability!
Goodluck!
ldzielak, thanks for the charger recommendation. I am looking for one as well as the previous poster.
However, I noticed you mention charging at 1-3C. From my reading the various charger manuals, most of them say never charge over 1C....I am guessing that is just the most conservative approach.
How do you know when 2/C or 3C is ok? Does it depend on some battery numbers, brand of cells, outside temp, etc? Waiting an hour (1C?) for a charge is not very good, as I may only be able to afford one battery in the beginning. On the other hand, waiting 20 min (3C?) would be no problem.

I think your correct about their testing.
I posted a few pages back on what I tried with the MMM Fan. I'll put it on the FAQ page with some other stuff soon.
"On the Monster I had my fan blades break from getting caught in the shroud. I replaced the fan and put a 0.030" plastic shim super glued to the underside of the fan shroud in the middle and the fan worked great for the second day of racing." It is still working fine.

Soooooo..... Anyone know when the Tekin 1/8 controller is gonna be released.
Anyone ???????????[/quote]
Dan communicates often with them and they have no firm dates. It does sound like it will have lower fet counts than the R1Pro with a heat sink and fan too. It would be great with NO FANS.
