Glassdoctor,
What gearing do you run on your 8ight?
spur/pinnion?
In the utube video what motor / speedo / battery combo were you running?
Thanks,
Doug

Normally I run a 1512 1900kv motor... with 46T spur. I have run pinions from 14 up to 18. 16 is a sweet spot and 18 makes the nitros looks slow...

In the youtube vid it was a 1700kv 1515 (I think the vid may list the wrong wind....) I believe geared 16/46. It wasn't the fastest setup I run by far....

I order most everything I need today, the UBEC,Mamba, the plastic spur 46 tooth and a couple of 5mm mod 1 pinions,Max amps 8000 14.8 and another ICE charger. RC-Monster was out of stock on the Neu 1512/1.5y/F finned motor. I was so bummed! Is there a sutable substitute? or should I just wait.

The 1512 2.5D is very similar... it's 2000kv vs. the 1.5Y 1900kv. They will run virtually the same. Not sure if the 2.5D is in stock either but if it is you know what to do!!

Does anyone know if I have to use a UBEC when running 4s lipo on a Mamba Max or is it just recommended?

Well aside from voiding your warranty, no you don't need a ubec. I've seen 5700's / Max esc run on 6s with no ubec.

ubec is to eliminate the rx battery and cuts down voltage to power the rx and servos, the mamba has a built in ubec which evidently is good for 6s lipo packs.

Everyone knows that's not true... come on. The MM won't take 6s even with a UBEC. The FETS are not rated for that.

5s is the max... and some have had issues with that.

You do need to run a UBEC with 4s, unless maybe you have a really mild setup and a small vehicle/servo requirement. THe internal BEC circuit will run on 4s, but it will overheat... and cause glitching issues or worse. When the bec is overloaded or overheated... it shuts off and back on, and may do that many times per second if needed. Needless to say, that's not good. That's info right from Castle.

Using a separate UBEC elimnates that problem... and it allows the esc to run cooler. Overloading a bec circuit is a common problem with brushless and high voltage. Often a thermalled or smoked esc really was the result of the bec melting down. That happened to my Mtroniks esc.

Thanks Glassdoctor,
It has been ordered.
I was not sure I was going off the info that I had got from you in the past and was afraid to blow $250 on something that was not right.

Contact LXMuff. He has the lowdown on all the motors. the Plentenburg is a great choice also.
He can expound on this.

Is the Mamba Max Motors big enough to use in the 1/8 buggies?

Cheers

Thanks.
If i used the 4 pack of AA bateries plugged into my receiver would that work until my UBEC arrives.]

MambaMax motors are not big enough for 1/8 buggies... and they are way too high in rpm anyway. If there was a 2000kv MM motor it would probably work 'ok'... but there's not.

Yes, you can use a 4 AA reciever pack.. or any rx pack for that matter, just like a nitro would use. When you use a UBEC or rx pack, you need to pull the red wire from the esc's rx plug. That disables the esc's bec from supplying current to the rx.
