i would get one of team Orions lipo's, they are high quality, and have many other advantages over other lipo's. but if you want high capacity, look at maxamps batteries.

If you can wait for it, The team Checkpoint charger is looking like it will be great. Otherwise, get the Duratrax Ice. I really like my Ice. I buy and sell chargers just trying them out and finding one I like and I have always kept my Ice. It's easy to use, will charge anything we need to do for RC. The only reason I say wait for the Checkpoint is all the updates and new programming for NiMh and NiCd.

The astroflite 109 is the fastest charger. Most chargers have a very slow peak process. The 109 is actualy fast and a very good charger. The ice does have a slow peak process.

Just to add another choice, since I never hear about it in the forums, I use a MaxAmps and a FMA Direct Cell-pro 4s charger. The charger is small, cheap, and easy to use, but is only for LiPos and tops out at a 3-amp charge. This combo has been working fine for me.

To be honest, the charge rate is not what you should be concerned with. Instead it is the charge time. These chargers slow way down to peak out a pack. Just let people know how much capacity your pack has and then ask which charger will charge it the fastest.

Some of the chargers will charge at an 8 amp rate and take 2 hours to charge. Others say they charge at an 8 amp rate and take less then 45 minutes to charge an 8k mah pack.

amps is a rate and so determines the time required directly (if it is an accurate rate)

It is like speed multiplied by time = total distance.

I just went through the same thing with my xxx-t. I got a mamba maxx 5700 combo set, and after talking to maxamps, castle, and as many people as I could find who had a mamba maxx combo, I got a maxamps 6000mah 7.4V pack and hyperion cell balancer to use with my triton charger. Everyone I talked to who had the mamba maxx said I needed at least a 5000 mah pack. Some folks prefer the 11.4V pack, but I'm going to be trying to race mine so I wanted something a little milder.

A proper lipo charger will cut the amp rate down when the battery is near charged. It's the way they work so you don't blow up a battery. That being said, with the 90% of the pack being charged, you don't lose much in the way of runtime or power. I just went through the same questions for my heli and that's what everyone told me about the lipo's chargers/packs.

I'm running an orion 3200 in my b4, as for chargers I have an Ice, which I like very well. I also have a FMA scorpion charger. It will charge at up to 10 amps, and balance charges. My .2

I went with the Orion's lipo and charger. Love them both. Their charger has different profile you can set up, so at a touch of a button you can change to a different battery to be charge. (ex. 6 cell 4200)
