Yes because you effectively removed the corrosion resistant coating. Aluminum corrodes if ya didn't know already
Try this little experiment. Drink a can of pop, then dig a small hole in the Earth, and put the empty pop can in the hole. Now bury the can and pour about a gallon of water on top of the soil. Come back in a week and see how badly that can corroded. BTW, that aluminum can wasn't anodized.
