Best budget starter boxes 1/8 scale

I am looking to get a new 1/8 scale starter box. I liked how well the Associated one I had worked, but want one more oriented towards 1/8.

So, what do you guys recommend? I need this to work with a 1/8 scale CEN Matrix that was a RTR version, and would want the flywheel to be able to reach up in there pretty well, I noticed that one some starter boxes they dont' reach up very far compared to the AE box I had.

not sure about reaching the flywheel, but the blue ofna chrome top box is very torquey for the price. the mugen has about the most reach on the wheel, but isn't at all budget friendly by the time you get two quality stick packs to power it. only drawback to the ofna is that its a little heavy, but in the "toy" car sport, i am sure we could all use the exercise carrying it!!

I got the stick packs, do you have a link to the mugen box?

Purple Mugen box:

This is just so you can see it. You can probably find it cheaper elsewhere.

I just bought an ofna 10245 box and it works awesome. Its actually stronger than my blue ofna chrome top box. Cheap too, about 50 bucks.

12v motor is going to be the best choice to start those .21 or .28 Buggy or Truggy motors

Welp if you read what the guy asked like I did. He asked for a link to the Mugen box. I provided the requested information. Cool eh?

Also using my powers of observation the guy didn't say he needed a budget box.

Me 2 you 0.

I own the Purple Mugen box and it's great. It's expensive compared to others and probably unncessary, but isn't everything like that in this hobby? ;)

Dynamite's NEW Platinum Series box is awsome!!

has anyone used a Himoto starter box? I got to see one online and it looks pretty good, but not sure if anyone has every used these.

I think I want to stick with a single motor setup and 6 cell packs as an option.

i would buy the mugen box. i've had mine since they hit the market a few yrs back, and it was the last starter box i have purchased. I use to have the ofna chrome top, and it was way to heavy. My purple box has held up unlike any starter box i have used. I recently changed the 2 motors out with Titan Emax 550 motors with 2 3600 stick packs..it super light, and It has the power to start any brand new motor on one bump!!! (just broke in 2 rb c6bb) with ease...Once you locate one, get it cause they go lke hotcakes. On the other note with the X5 box, my buddy had bad luck with his, his wheel shaved down really fast, and broke the post after 3 weekends of use...Spend the money and get the "Purple Box"

Looking for a starter box for an Xray XB8, any recommendations beside the Mugen? I have a budget of $100. Thanks in advance.

layedbackguy 03-15-2007 10:29 AM

ofna blue chrome top is your best bet, and you will save some of your $100.00
