Default Spektrum and Venom Fail Safe

I am relatively new to nitro. I tried to install a venom fail safe with my DSM system, and something isn't right.

The Venom light does not come on, and the adjustment on the fail safe for the throttle servo doesn't do anything. When I turn off the transmitter, the DSM receiver goes into its own fail safe mode.

I tried to re-bind the receiver and transmitter, however I can't get it to work. The Venom Fail safe blinks when the receiver is in bind mode, but turns off when I turn the car off and on.

Are these two things incompatible with one another?

How do I get the venom fail safe to work with my Specktrum system? Or do I have to?

Thank you,
