I am on some what of a budget. I have around $700-$800 to blow on a roller w/ engine and pipe. I can drive the wheels off a 1/10th scale nitro truck, but the class is not very popular localy atm so I need something else to run. My number one priorities are that I want a durable buggy that is going to last. Odds are I will go w/ a werks 3port and a jp1 for engine & pipe. The local tracks are tight tracks. That basicly leaves me choosing between the jammin, hyper 8, mbx-5(standard version), & the 8ight, the tracks are too rough for an xray. I'll be able to set up the buggy and drive the wheels off of it, which choice is going to be the cheapest in the long run. Is there another power plant & pipe combo I should be looking at for small tracks? Powerwise the werks is perfect, but is there a good bottom end engine that will give me more life? Could some one inform me about the o.s. vg .21? Is it basicly a rg that lasts longer?

From what I understand, the CEN Matrix accels on really rough tracks and can be had in the pro form pretty cheap new. If you want something alittle different, give it a look. I have the RTR version sitting here, and it has some of the beefiest parts I have seen on a 1/8 scale.

Its also been doing quite well and its truggy version is top notch too.

If you are limiting it to your list stated, I think the only thing I would be concerned with on the Jammin is how fast the parts start to slop out. that was the primary complaint I heard from Jammin drivers. Maybe that has been improved?

if you put the right setup on it an xray it is fine in the rough and i dont think there is another buggy out there that is made near as good as the the xb8 is i have been running it for alomost a year now and have only broken one front arm just my .02

The Novarossi .21BF is what I would look at. It is a good 3 port motor that has good longevitity and power. I would also look to pick up a good used buggy off of ebay. Like a jammin, xray, kyosho, or losi if you get lucky. Xray also sells a basic XB8 kit called the XB8R that is a good bang for the buck. It is available at A-main racing.

Mugen Comes with Tires, & rims and body... in order to compare kits for what they realy are you have to know what's included in the box and what's not.

Also if you look at how long your buggy will be in top shape before having to change parts....

I have been some what out of the scene for the past year. Localy most people drive mugens and then the rest is realy a big mix when I last raced. Realy, I'm thinking towards a mugen or losi at the moment. The mugen parts quality is virtualy as good as the xrays and mugen makes it affordable to upgrade the buggy. I realy don't know enough about the losi to make that decision though. I'm sure both buggies are equaly fast in the right hands, but does the losi have that same parts quality like the mugen? I know that when I run 1/10th scale losis I am replacing arms every weekend to get rid of slop.

yes it does,the losi is extremaly durable i have yet to break anything on my 8ight,but both cars are awesome.but i believe most guys that switch from mugen to losi never look back,infact it seems to be that switching from anybrand to the losi nobody ever looks back

hey man like someone already told you most will tell you what they run. but truth is the xray if you are a noob youll be chasin a setup for a while but once you get there youll love it, the 8ight has some kinks to be worked out yet its new what do you expect but in the right handsits amazing but pricey. i would stay away from the expensive kyosho unless they stock parts at you lhs,the ofna is cheap and durable and surpisingly fast the hyper8 and the jammin and if you want dependable mill stick to a nova the 21bf is great on a small track. i ran 8 gallons thru mine and it wil still fire rite up but thats about it at 190 its worth every pennny!go with the jammin npipe for your track conditions

I'm in the same boat, trying to get into 1/8. i've pretty much decided on the losi but on the engine how does the nova 21bf compare to the os 21vz-b vspec t (p) other than price.

I cant realy say much on the 21BF havnt seen them run but being a Nova will most likely last longer but the V spec will preform much better then that model Nova but having said that im not a fan of O.S either i run the Nova Plus series so i would try and steer you to get one of them if you look at RC MART cheapest Novas on the web im runing the plus 7 port turbo from them and the thing is crazy
