Default Strapping tape for off-road

There is plenty of info for runing strapping tape as the way to keep your batteries in. Is this method recommended for off-road surfaces -- if you did everything else correctly, would the tape still be cut up by grit & rocks?

We use it for holding the packs together, never heard of it being used to actually hold the pack in the vehicle. Some foam tape on the battery hold down strap or bar works well, the strapping tape would be a PITA to get off when you wanted to change batteries.

Default Tape

I am playing with mounting a flat LiPo in a chassis (xxx4) with battery slots. I am playing with options. And I wouldn't mind the trouble of the tape. I prototyped the setup with tape (Scotch 3M from WalMart) and it holds well and is easy to remove, but I am worried it might be ripped up. I have thought about battery strap mounting blocks, but with the slots being there (and other stuff being nearby), it is not clear yet how to fit them in.
