2006 Chilean Nats, Jammin and Maxy's Fuel kills the competition !!!

This is my personal review of the "2006 Chilean Offroad Nationals" where i participated last weekend. The track its the "Club de Aeromodelos de Chile - CACH" track, same place where the 2007 Southamerican 1/8th Buggy Championship will be held.

I arrived to the track Saturday 09.00am for free practice day, but not seeing my friends for almost 6 months (im working in Mexico) was not good for practice time, i ended just doing 1 fuel tank on my Jammin in order to know the track, and after that i was just taling with the guys and playing with my doughter at the track ... my day ended by 13.30hrs in order to be with the family ...

Sunday morning arrived 08.00hrs to the track, the day was very clear and the sun was promissing to give us a very hot day. The track was closed and would open just for the start of the qualy heats.

The structure of the race for Monster Trucks was 2 x 10 minutes qualifies + 20 minutes A-Main and on Buggies was 3 x 10 minutes qualifies + 20 minutes lower mains + 45 minutes A-Main.

The track its very big, with 3 big jump sections including a very big triple jump which send your car 3.5 meters high (about 10 feet) and 14 meters long (about 43 feet) to land on the receiver part of the jump, and the whole track have a almost-constant width of about 5 meters (16 feet) so you have plenty of room to choose where you want to do your race line.

On MT Class i was very confident 'cause my Tamiya TNX was dialed for the track and the tire and wheel selection was great, i ended qualifying on second place for the A-Main and with chances to do a great job on the finals. Sadly when my pitman tried to start my engine 1 minute prior to the start of the race, he ended with my pullstart cut on his hand, so that was all for me, with a 20 minute A-Main, was imposible to change the pullstart system and still do a good job on the track.

On Buggy class, the competition was fierce, specially having a couple of guys with a lot of track time of practice during the last month and on saturday. My special concern was my engine cause being a very big track (47-48 seconds average lap time) with many high speed sections, i never tested my STS .21 Team Edition on that kind of track. Fortunately the torquey engine performed very good, and with a EFRA 2039 Thunder Tiger 3 chamber pipe and 30% Maxys Fuel the combination, for me, was perfect.

First qualy was a test for my hands on the track but i managed to do it very good, not fast laps but very consistant and almost no mistakes, made the second place. Second qualy i tried to get a little better, again very conservative driving and ended second again. Third and last heat i tried to do an extra effort for faster lap times but even when i really got faster, made too many mistakes and ended again in second place. So far in my group i did very good, my Jammin and STS combination was giving me just smiley faces.

The faster drivers i saw on the track was without a doubt Rodrigo Valenzuela (Jammin/RB), Felipe Lyon (Kyosho/RB), Roberto Saldivia (Jammin/OS), Rodrigo Cristi (Mugen/OS), Luis Cellino (Hyper8/RB) and Michel Muller (Kyosho/OS).

The 20 minutes sub-final (tree system, like IFMAR system) was very good, i started on first place and after doing some very ugly mistakes plus a flameout due to bad glow plug i went to 10th place at the 5 minutes mark. After that all went good, so i started to crawl to upper positions, ending 3rd after 20 minutes of racing.

On the A-Main (45 minutes long), i classified for start in 6th place. The TQ was made by Felipe Lyon, who showed during the qualies a great performance, ending on first place of his group on the 3 heats. The start of the race was a little complicated due to a jump by the end of the first straight but after that all drivers took his lines of driving without problem so during the entire 45 minutes race were just a few episodes of crashing cars each other, and with the great width of the track it was a great show of passing and recovering positions during the entire race. It was very clean 45 minutes final with all the 10 pilots fighting each other for position during the entire time, i made a couple mistakes and got 4th place by the minute 20 of the race, and after that i fought for geting the 3rd place and just about 3 1/2 minutes prior the end of the race i got the 3rd place ... thanks to my pitman Klaus Moller for his great job !!!

To be in the top 10 you need to enter this race. There are only 10 people in the whole freakin race. Everyone told me the motor sucks. :nod:

Ofcouse you're gonna "KILL" the competion if there ain't any. :rolleyes:

Please try to not talk BS when you dont know anything about it ok ? ... that group picture was taken about 2 1/2 hours after the race, when most people went back to home ... the race got 15 drivers on MT Class (yes, that sucks) and 32 on Buggy (Chile is not a RC country as USA or others), most of the drivers were using OS VSpecs, RB WS7 III and C6's ... so yes, the STS engine its a very good contender ... im using STS in offroad since march 2006 and im more than happy with them (because of my job i raced mostly in Mexico during 2006 with 40+ drivers per race on national stages and always made the a-main even when 5+ JP engine were racing) ...

Arrgghhh, the STS i was using have about 4 1/2 gallons prior to the race, its the same engine i used on the last race in mexico on raining conditions ...

The info. I got about the motor is from an owner of a Hobby Shop. So I know nothing about the races from your part of the world, Why should I ?
Isn't there a civil war still going on ? Cops can be bought for donuts ?

tabushi - i would just ignore mr. prejudice/ignoramous.

i think i speak for most readers when i say that we enjoy the race coverage and perspective from other parts of the world (after all, isn't that what the internet is about...). the commentary (including drivers and car/engine), pictures AND video are all well done. many large races do not enjoy this level of coverage.

personally, the only thing i would like to see is a wee bit more info about the facility outside of the track. drivers stand is what we would expect (tall and covered), but i cannot quite tell about the pits and other amenitites. it looks like the pits are covered and there may be a few permanent tables. was anything else provided such as AC, a public air compressor, etc?

The rc club where this track its located its a big RC facility with onroad track (1/10 nitro and electric sedan), rc airplanes, artificial lagoon for rc boat and yatching, U-Control circle, sailplane spot and rc heli special spot.

The offroad track, behind the drivers tower, have permanent tables for 35 pilots (the club have about 20 prmanent offroad drivers), each table with 3 x 220v entries (in my country, 220v its the standard) and a permanent air compressor ...

In this track will be held the southamerican championship with pilots from argentina, brazil, chile of course, venezuela, uruguay, peru, colombia, mexico and couple of drivers from USA, Dominican Republic and Italia so the club will put i think 3 more air compressors and plastic tables and chairs + covering for all the people we hope to have in March 22th to 25th 2007.

once in a while come this jerk with nothing to do but BS & complain of other brand.. when he only heard it from someone else.. or even worst from such hobbyshop that dont even sell such brand.

Its proven Jammin can make u on the podium, and so others too. (some never, so sad :D ) but thats the fact. its fact too at our side here. Jammin still perform, irregardless of the driver.

now about the engine. Ok it came from taiwan ..so what? Have u check yer computer lately? wheres' the chip from? it performs and its damn cheap too. i can have 3 sts engines for just one damn expensive brand out there who never outperformed or only at par with sts. so why bother buying them.

but of coz, jerk is jerk. they come n go. so get your radio out, lets have fun with rc offroad racing. :D :D :D

and BTW, i love the track. i wish i have the cash to go there. will be cool to meet other racers at the other side of the world. :nod:
