The #1 hop up for the XX4 is the Trinity Aluminum motor clamp. Unfortunately it is no longer made but it can still be found on Ebay. $30 to $60 plus shipping. All the other Trinity products are not neccessary but do look nice(motor plate, heatsink, servo mount, front bulkhead, rear pivots). Once again you would have to keep an eye on Ebay.

Two other pretty cheap hop-ups for the XX4 or X - 5:
First, you can put an RC10B2 front brace (AE part# 9120) across the front hinge pins, which helps save wear and breakage of the front bulkhead. You'll have to dremel a bit on the bulkhead, bumper, and brace, but you can make it slip in there and really strengthen the front end. Info on the mod here.
Second, new screws are available for attaching the casterblock to the front control arm. The standard design screws into the A-arm and pivots in the casterblock, which means that any force on the wheel from hitting things is transferred entirely through the back of the arm. These new screws go through the arm and screw into the casterblock, helping split the force of impact between the front and back of the A-arm. It really helps strengthen the front of the car.
