clutch bearing problems
 

I'm experiencing problems with clutch bell bearings exploding. I've tried all different kinds of bearings and clutches, and the only clutches that are working well are the Fioronis. I'm running a Nova P5 in my MBX5 and a Top 528x in my MBX5T- both vehicles are experiencing the same issues. Sometimes the bearings last a little longer than others, but today I ran 3 tanks through my truggy and smoked a set. Some guys I talk to get almost 2 gallons through a set, I'm lucky to get a full main in before they blow. I've tried shimming differently and even had 2 other people set it all up for me. All with the same problems.

Any imput you can suggest would be much appreciated.

buy better bearings. get some from bocabearings.com

tried them. People tell me that Amains are good but I haven't tried those yet.

If you can get a brace that wil stiffen up the centre section of the chassis get it. You definately could be overheating them as well. If your using half throttle a lot that can make the clutch slip tons and create super high temps. Also try setting your gear mesh a bit more on loose side, then you can get more flex out of that area before the clutch bell binds up with the spur gear and exerts tons of pressure on the bearings.

Its possible you could have bad bearings on your diff, or an out of round spur gear or clutch bell, or a warped diff case.

pretty sure that's not it. two different vehicles one of which I just put together yesterday and only ran three tanks through the chassis

this may soind odd but change your engine bearings. a friend had the same problem but not as bad(got about 10 runs) turns out one of the bearings that supports the crank had locked up and was causing major heat.

we thought about that especially with the P5 but it's doing it in the 528 and I still have problems rolling it on the box it's so new.

Just run the Fiorni clutch then, they work really well anyways. Way nicer than the regular 3 shoe aluminums.

yeah that's what I'm running on both and I like them so far, they wear really well, just having issues with the bearings

This guy keeps his stuff perfect just so guys know it's not a maintenance issue. The home-made chassis braces he talked of earlier are nice pieces straight off the lathe.

do you hapen to have a CNC machine? i need to get a motor mount machined

My guess is you are not setting/shiming your end play on the clutch bell loose enough. It should be about .40mm of slop, if it is less than that, that might be your problem. It is not happening on the Fiorni's probably because they tend to not generate and much heat as other clutches. They are also one of my favorites.
