Hi all,

I just want to start building my DF03 Dark Impact.

Several questions in my mind :
1. I see the front bumper is not as wide as other tamiya buggy (DF02 or TL01B or else). I'm afraid something will hit the front suspension arm and damage the suspension mount, because there;s no brace like U-shape shaft on DF02 or TL01B.
Should I make one or is there any manufacturer build this things (brace or wide front bumper) ?

2. Because the system is actually a 3 part chassis (rear, center and front), does the join between them, good enough or should I make another brace to strengthen the joint ?

3. for the rear diff joint rear, I see it's the (more or less) same as the one from TA04 / TRF414 and the front is from TRF415. Would it be better if I replace with the plastic one with the rings ? I know it's good for on-road, but is it good for off-road ?

Your answer / suggestion / comment are much appreciate.

Build it as per your kit instructions and enjoy... You will have enought fun driving it as is.

Thanks for the advice, but I intend to build it as a racing competition EP buggy 4WD... for Tamiya products.

Lots of good info there and many good people watching the thread

I have the DF-03 and it is pretty stout. I have done some pre-race testing at SRS in Arizona and have given it a pretty hard workout. I haven't been able to break it yet.

Build it per the manual with the exception of these items:

Shocks: Toss the kit ones and get the Tamiya upgrades or Associated B4 shocks. I have the AE ones and they work great
Slipper spur gear: Don't even consider building this buggy without one. The stock setup is fine for bashing but you need a slipper for racing. They are available on eBay now.
Turnbuckles: The kit ones are crap and hard to adjust becaus of the way they thread in to the ball cups. Get adjustable ones.

But for turnbuckles.... I see only Tobee make this ones...
Shoould I take it... 'cause it's alum, I'm afraid it will bend easily.
Any titanium ones ? Please let me know.... manufacturer and p/n if possible...

Notice when you follow the tips from Bender (rctech) a.k.a. relayer (radiocontrolzone) web site about page 9, step 17.
After you cut it, it gives more steering, but it's not equal.
The right steering will be more than the left.
Because some parts hit other parts

So, to get equal steering you have to cut some part of the C4 part.
Please be careful that all of this cut is a 2mm (max) depth.
As for the area, just do it as you need.

The cut that I made here was using a soldering knife from Hakko.
It cut easily and precisely... If you don't have this tool, you might find it'll be a little hard to cut it...

I add a kind of brace to prevent the front part broken...
