2 Stage foam

We are running some T4 and B4 electric vehicles. I saw at the Mod Nats that alot of the Factory guys were mounting the same tires as we would normally run but the foam was always 2 stage. Why is this and what does the 2 stage fom do?

Can someone explain?

it makes the car go faster of course!

2 stage foam changes the sidewall/overall flex in tires. Although it may seem like a small change, it changes the handling drastically. I'm not totally sure on this, but the harder the surface using a stiff foam, like a trinity bomb 1, will yield less squirming of the tire, meaning the tire can get the power to the ground while the car tracks much straighter.

I know one track that I race on requires a bomb 1 foam in our gast truck tires.

Generally I think you only use these in the rear tires.

What about hard packed tracks that get very dusty and rutted from truggy/1/8 buggies? Will these work or os the stock foams the ticket?

I prefer bomb one over the 2stage stuff. The white (top) layer of the 2stage had a habit of breaking down before the grey foam/tire thread, which caused flat tires. Hartson foam is the hot ticket at our track, just because it works the same if not better than the bomb ones, but it will last several tires.

DS foam works well on tracks like Hot Rod but Bomb 1 and Hartson foam works best on most other types of tracks.

if your track wasn't rutted up, then I would say they might. But a stiffer foam will make the car bounce on rutted surfaces, which you don't want. Most of the time you can't go wrong with the stock foam, if money isn't a problem to spend on tires, then by all means experiment.

A custom foam that Dan Hartson (father of factory AE/Checkpoint driver Stephen Hartson) makes and sells.

I really like the buggy stuff. It is kind of like 2-stage, how it isn't perfect the first set of tires, but is awesome for the 2-4 sets, like bomb-one grey, but not quiet as firm.
