Don't blame it on a underpowered/less hoped up truck...

Just practice, there's no way you should lose to a Rusty with a XXX-T !

Agreed.

Having owned both - i can tell you the XXXT is capable of wrapping the Rustler's head in with a hex driver.

Rusty's a GREAT truck - dont get me wrong. But the losi will be quicker on every part of the track once you get the hang of it.

Buy lots of batteries. Practice practice practice!!!

I thought you were talking about real racing at a track... If his is faster in a straight line, then get a lower wind motor.

I would go for a mod motor or maybe better batteries. Possibly even a brushless.

I see - seems you're somewhat lacking in horsepower. Still using the motor that came with the truck?

Even a good stock motor will leave that "trinity" unit for dead. 19turn spec motors are also great in these trucks and will run fine on the stock ESC.

Or go ballistic with a modified or brushless setup if finances allow

make sure the your xxxt is properly geared. what motor do you, and your father have? are they the same turns? or different?

practice is what you need for the track. i see children at the track ,with xxx-t's and computerized radio's, the newest motors, etc. thier parents spoil them on the car. but, when they drive, man they stink! they cant get through the track without fliping over, hitting a wall, or frying that $100 esc putting in a 6 turn motor in a truck!!! you have to start out slow, and work your way up. THEN when your father outruns you in a rustler, you get the expensive equipment just to make it fast enough. i have been racing an xxx-t with a traxxas radiosystem for a while now, in stock. i could walk into the shop, and plop down $300 for a better radio, but i dont, because i dont need it. ive won races, and have had fun, from beating people with better equipment than me.

( i have a computerized transmitter for modified, but i use the traxxas in stock as a "handicap". )

The Novak 5800 SS brushless combo is a good setup for the XXX-T. It can be bought at www.towerhobbies.com

If this is too much then the Novak 4300 would be a good setup that falls between a 19T and a 27T brushed motor in power. You will have to get a brushless esc to run these motors if you do not get the combo. The stock esc will not work.
