hello all
quick question, what are the rules/standards with lipos and/or brushless for racing at SoCal and racing in general? Is there a stock brushless w/NiMH that is comparable to a brushed/NiMH setup? And then how do lipos fit in to this mix?
New to the hobby and need some education

The brushless stock would probably run with a VERY fast brushed stock motor. Lipos offer a large amount of volts/amperage making them faster than NiMH batteries, not to mention they are much lighter.

At socal, unless someone calls someone on it, Slim probably wouldn't do anything as long as you aren't running at the very top of sportsman. Lipos aren't supposed to be raced in any class, but I think Slim lets the mod guys run them. Brushless are only supposed to be run in mod, but sometimes there are special classes for them (mostly onroad).

The Novak 13.5 BL motor is pretty close to a stock motor. It has much more torque, but not much top end (RPM). In onroad the lap times between a 13.5 and a good brushed are pretty close. BL is better on a tighter track due to the torque, brushed better on bigger... This might give BL a *slight* advantage in stock truck due to the torque...

However, Slim does not care if you run the BL 13.5 in stock. As long as you're not winning, it doesn't seem to be a problem.

As far as lipos, the same goes for stock. As long as you're not winning, it doesn't seem to be a problem. In mod, anything goes and Lipos & BL are both completely legal.

I'll run it along with Joey/my Dad. Just finished rebuilding my shocks, hadn't replaced the shims and seals since the reedy when it was new. Hadn't ever redone my front shock's oil.
