wOO. Right.. do you think if i use a sensor short course SC411 motor in SCX10 will be ok? I run Durango DESC410R. and hope to use same motor. so that i can spend only in upgrade parts .

I would think so, but I'm not sure I don't now much about brushless motors.

I have been running brushed and BL over the years and both has there ups and downs. I am running my brushed kit on 3 sell and with the water proof HH esc its just insane. I would just not recommend BL in water as it always seems to get in all over no mater how good you tray to seal it.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the ROC 412. Which one would be best? 1800, 1200, 2300, 3100, 2Y, 1.5 etc etc. My SCX10 currenty has the Tekin FXR with the Pro hand wound motor and its a little slow on 3s. I realize that its supposed to be slow but my old AX10 had a brushless Novak system and I liked it better.

Holmes has a great reputation but I don't think that you can compare a 2 pole 3100 to a 4 pole. However, if you like the 3100 in 2 pole it would a monster as a 4 pole. Waaaay more torque.

3100 and gear down if sticking with 3s.

This debate can go on forever as everyone has personal preferences and ways they choose to run a rig. Myself I prefer to utilize a brushed setup like a Holmes, Brood or a Tekin for a scaler that will see every terrain such as dirt, water and the ever abusive mud. With the brushless technologies prices I just cant risk blowing top dollar on a set up that could go up in smoke after 1 bashing session.

In dealing with a comp crawler I would have no issue with a brushless setup as the technology and power is night and day compared to brushed but so isn't the terrain as you typically just run on rocks with comp crawlers.

I'm still new to this but I bought a ROC412 3100 for my very modified SCX10 and it works better on 2s that my fancy hand wound 35T Pro brushed Tekin motor did on 3s. Better everything and excellent wheel speed despite going from an 87 spur to a 93.

Some of the better sensored brushless motors can be rebuilt, plus some are almost sealed, and the sensor boards can be easily waterproofed. My Holmes BL setup has been through all kinds of muck, mud, water, sand, etc. I prefer to "volt up / gear down" go with < 3000 kv or so, 3s, and gear pretty low. You will have crazy low end torque, plus enough wheel speed to launch a little, if you need to. I think it's often more cost effective in the long run to get high quality motor / esc, and rebuild than to just buy new motors repeatedly.

Its been a while and I have 3 crawlers now. My Wroncho with the ROC 3100 is my favorite. I tried it on 3s and after 50 feet the stock tranny pretty much exploded. I replaced the gears with the RR Steel kit and its awesome. I guess that I can understand what people like about brushed. My other 2 scx10s have the FXR/35T setup. The brushless is better in every respect except downhill but I'm going to hook up the RS to my hotwire and see how much drag brake I can add. If you're just starting out I guess that I'd recommend brushed due to cost. The ROC was more than a Tekin FXR and 35T combo.
