New crawler guy with questions
My dad went along with me to my LHS today and was in shock when he saw some of the crawlers on display. He's been wanting to get into RC for a while now but not racing like me with my SC10 but just something fun to goof around with.
I'm thinking the best thing for him would be some sort of RTR crawler for around the $300 area. Just a quick search around led me to the Losi Night-Crawler and the Axial AX10 Scorpion RTC. Which one of those would be the best bet for a beginner? He would definitely want the most reliable, fool proof setup. Which would be best of those two?.... or something else?
Thanks guys

well the axial scorpion is pretty good out of the box, but then again so is the losi. Everyone has their preferences but my first crawler was a scorpion and I've only had to replace 2 parts on it since I bought it due to it flipping out of control down a 30ft hill. I've also driven the nightcrawler and its alot of fun too, but if I had to make a choice I'd go with the axial IMO

yeah as far as upgrades go there is TON of aftermarket hop-ups for the axial, I own the AX10 the SCX10 and the XR10 and all 3 are fantastic. The only things you're really going to want to do to the axial out of the box is change the suspension links to aluminum, have at least a 3000mAh stick, get rid of the hammers that come on the rims and replace them with the proline flatirons ( best grip on dry and superior on wet ) and change the plastic shafts to metal CVD's. all in all depending on your LHS you should be able to have a rig that will keep up with comps, and not have to worry about anything breaking for around 100 bucks. I've since so heavily modified my scorpion that if I were to put the punk digs back in and the reaer servo its MOA, but I like keeping it on the scaler side, especially running with my son who has the SCX which is a great trail truck, but it cant do all that the scorpion does ( till after I heavily modified that as well ) hope this helped you in your decision and hope you guys have fun out there crawlin

shaftys Moa rigs are affordable and waaaay more capable . If he is just goofing around get a Redcat RS10 159.00 shipped you can mod the hell out of it or just slap on some tires and sell it when you get bored . I ran mine past stock axials with just putting some rovers on and limiting suspension travel. It comes with 4 wheel steering , a decent esc and radio. Good wheelspeed . Servos are junk but so are any rtr servos . there is a youtube video of rs10 vs axial its a non biased comparison . And alot of axials parts fit the rs10
