Northglenn, CO. (Jan. 16, 2012) - Scot Hersh piloting the Red Bull Chevy won his third consecutive 410 sprint car feature Saturday night at the Sprint Car R/C Speeday. Scot showed little rust after a month hiatus. Brandon Steele and Tony Rossi kept the pressure on throughout the race to take the other podium spots. The Silver Crown feature was a real battle as Brandon hung on for a 1 second victory over fast closing Terry Plummer with Hersh coming home a solid third. Only 3 seconds separated the top three at the checker of the 100 lap feature. Jace Hansen continues his strong run in the 360 class by lapping the field to win the main event. Father-son duo Brandon and Rick Steele swept the top two positions in the midget feature with dominating runs. The large field of 76 cars were greeted with a shortened track surface in honor of Chilli Bowl weekend. All the drivers quickly adapted to the scale 1/5th mile bull ring and the racing was close and intense throughout the evening.

Racing resumes this Saturday night with the pits opening at 3PM and qualifying beginning at 5PM. the track will be open for practice Wednesday night from 6PM until 9PM. The racing is open to the public.

Northglenn, CO. (Jan. 23,2012) - A record 103 entries jammed the pits Saturday night at Sprint Car R/C Speedway. With the competition the stiffest it has been all year, the cream once again rose to the top as familiar names took the feature wins in all classes.

Billy Costello, last years 360 champ topped all comers in taking home the A-Main victory over Sal DiFazio and Troy Witthar. Scot Hersh returned to victory lane for the fifth consecutive week by taking both the Midget and Silver Crown Features. Hersh struggled with the midget having to transfer through the B feature and a tight battle with Chris Matthews just to transfer to the A. Chris ran a great race and made only one slight bobble that allowed Hersh to sneek past for a narrow win. Starting in the rear of the A feature, Scot worked his way to the front and overtook race long leader Jace Hansen on the white flag lap and eeked out a 1 second victory. Lars Johnson, returning home after taking the win at the prestegious Chilli Bowl R/C races last week, settled for third. It was easier for Hersh in the Silver Crown race as he lapped the field and crusied to the win over hard charging Brandon Steele with father Rick taking the final podium spot. Not to be outdone, Brandon Steele kept his amazing streak alive by taking home the 410 feature. Steele has posted wins in at least one class nearly every race weekend this year.

Racing resumes Saturday night with the pits opening at 3PM and qualifying at 5PM. Come check out the action at Sprint Car R/C Speedway, 10750 Irma Drive, Northglenn Co Unit #14.

Default Classes

Please, specifics about the requirements/rules for each class and any other information/details.
-also details about the races and location such as availability of pit space (bring our own tables? power strip/extenstion cord?) cost $? do we need our own transponder?
For example could someone show up with Losi 1/18 slider retail box, charge the battery and then compete in one of the classes?

-also, if you have time, any advice or recommendations for allowed upgrades like springs, batteries tires, etc.

BTW I noticed that A Main Hobbies is selling the slider RTR with the remote for $99.

The only car allowed, is the Losi Mini Sprint - Part Number LOSB0206.

360 Class:
  • Motor/ESC/NiMH battery/Gearing must all remain stock.
  • Large Rear Tires on both Left and Right Rear
  • Any Shock Oil changes are allowed, pistons must remain stock
  • Springs - Black (soft) and Gold (hard) can be changed; Alum Threaded Shock bodies allowed
  • tires can be scuffed, using a Dremel/sanding wheel/otherwise, however all raised blocks/rows of the tire must be visible to the naked eye (no "slicks")
  • Replacement NiMH batteries, LOSB1210 (white label) do put out a little more power than the stock, Black Label NiMH packs that come with the cars
  • No Tire additive allowed, it's not necessary anyway

410 Class:
  • Motor/ESC/Gearing must all remain stock.
  • Large Rear Tires on both Left and Right Rear
  • Any Shock Oil changes are allowed, pistons must remain stock
  • Springs - Black (soft) and Gold (hard) can be changed; Alum Threaded Shock bodies allowed
  • Dynamite 1650mAh LiPo is the ONLY LiPo Battery allowed
  • tires can be scuffed, using a Dremel/sanding wheel/otherwise, however all raised blocks/rows of the tire must be visible to the naked eye (no "slicks")
  • No Tire additive allowed, it's not necessary anyway

Both the Silver Crowns and Midgets are cars which Terry converts from the Losi Mini Sprint. You have to purchase those directly from him.
  • Silver Crown are essentially wingless sprint, with a longer carbon fiber chassis. Body panels and tail tanks are longer also, and you must run the large rear tires on both sides.
  • Midgets are a shorter chassis, and you must run the Thunder Power 1350mAh 2S 7.4V G6 Pro Lite 25C battery. This battery can not be used in the Sprint/Silver Crown classes. Terry also adds shorter, custom left side arms, and makes all the body panels as well. You must run the Small Rear Tire on both sides.

Cost:
  • $15 for the 1st class, $10 for each additional

Transponders:
  • Personal Transponders (AMB & MyLaps) are recommended, but he does have standard transponders available if you need.
  • Some guys have had good luck/no problems with the Black Cloned transponders; and other guys have had many missed laps, or they don't work at all. Luck of the draw with those things.

Pits:
  • Tables, Chairs, and power are provided. There typically are enough chairs to go around, but it would not hurt to bring your own folding chair, just to be safe.
  • There are enough tables to hold 46 racers (if I'm counting correctly), and basically everyone runs at least 2 classes.
  • Everyone gets roughly 1/2 of these 30x72 Costco Folding tables (30x36 of pit space).

Location:

Timeframe:
  • Doors open at 3pm for practice, which runs until ~5pm.
  • About 5pm, we start by running single-car qualifying, for all cars in all classes.
  • You get 3-4 laps on the track (depending on total # of cars entered, 3 to save time), on your own, your best single-lap time seeding you in the heats.
  • Once Single-car qualifying is done, Terry will seed all the heats, and we'll run 3 rounds of 10-lap heats.
  • He'll re-sort the heats after 3 rounds, then we'll run 3 more rounds of 10-lap heats.
  • Your single fastest overall time will seed you in the Main events ("rocket round" qualifying), which run after the heats are done.
  • 360 & 410 Sprint A's are 40 laps, Midgets are 50 laps, and Silver Crown Amain is 100 laps.

Just to be clear - the Losi Mini Slider has been discontinued -- we are running the Losi Mini Sprint.

To answer specifically - yes, you can show up with an RTR, open the box, and throw it down. You will need a set of Large rear tires though, as the RTR only comes with 1 Large Rear tire. And, it's best to have a spare battery - and the White-Label battery mentioned in my last post, does put out more power than the stock, black label RTR battery.

Best bet - come down tomorrow, anytime after 3pm, and check it out.

Sorry - Terry Plummer, he's the track owner/organizer. And, now that I look, I don't even have his Number or Email for that matter. But, he is at the track every Wednesday from 6-9pm, and every Saturday from 3pm on.
