Yes and no. Like Flippin said, the ability to remap is pretty cool. Of course the YZ450Fs have had that ability since 2010 and the 250s since '14. I have the GYTR tuner tool and it is pretty cool. The '18 can be remapped from a phone app. I don't think I am holding out for a 'game-changer' but I do believe the current YZ450F chassis could be ironed out a bit. Like I explained a little earlier in this thread, the 250 is like perfect with the current frame, reverse motor etc. For the 450, with it's taller motor and more inertia, weight bias etc, your set-up is a lot more finicky. The 450 carries it's weight a little higher and the 450 tends to be a little less predictable as the 250 with this current platform Yamaha is using (which is ultra-responsive to side-toside movements because of the extreme low CG of the design). So apparently the '18 is much much improved in that area. Plus, it weighs 2lbs less and the bodywork is slimmer, which honestly is huge for me. I hated the 14-17 shrouds/airbox design so bad. But since the JGR/Cycra stuff was made available to buy, I bought it immediately for my 250. Night and day difference. No need to worry on the '18. Plus, the '18 450 has e-start which is super nice. So basically, while maybe not a game-changer, the new 450 has a few things that I personally wanted to see tweaked and all of those were addressed on this new model.

As far as the pros, the Yamaha is just so different from the other bikes. And like I said, the 250 is a huge hit. It is statistically the most popular bike at a Pro National at any given race this year (reference TWMX Monday Kickstart Bike Breakdown). The 450, while good, isn't quite as popular. If these kinks are worked out, I think it could maybe be a favorite among the pros as well. Supposedly with Webb, he is struggling with set-up track to track on the '17. Dunno how true it is, but on Pulp MX it was said that he has looked incredible on the '18 and wants to be on it ASAP (just like RV in 2011, when he pushed Kawi to give him the 2012 early). So who knows lol.

Lol. I tried to not make that sound like I'm a Yamaha fanboy, just my own person opinion on it all. I realize on my level the bike is way less of a factor as the pros, since like you said, they are all good. But I just am the type of person to run what I am comfortable with. I like the new Yamahas (and Suzukis).

Went out to the track again this weekend. Rode my buddy's '16 Factory Edition KTM. Nice bike. KTM is for sure a solid choice these days.

Ya I want to try 1 of the new 350 or 450s. The 250 felt good. Just a lot different than the YZ.

More Yamaha money coming to you.........

My motor guy (sleeve and porting) says he sees KTM's, more so than any other brand, suffer from high RPM damage. He does say the Yamaha brand tends to take the punishment better than others. When all things are equal of course. Just free information.......

Good stuff. That is interesting. Good to hear positive stuff about the Yams. That sucks about the KTMs breaking, especially since they cost the most, right off the bat, to begin with lol.

Most KTMs are all e-start with no kicker though. I still laughed either way.
