Default Thank you...

Hi folks,

your response has been very good and we received a lot of applications to become involved as a beta tester on our Virtual RC Racing ptoject. We have more than enough applications right now, and most of them would qualify. We are now going to sort them out, and will also look at there racing backgtound so we get a good cross section of the r/c market involved in this beta test.

We will contact the selected beta testers after the weekend by e-mail.

The first 'live'test is planned for July 10-11 in Birmingham UK during the National Model Exhibition, where we team up with RACER magazine.

Thanks again for your support so far, also the forum discussions provided us so good feedback already. As soon as we reach the next stage in this project we'll let you know in these forums.

Wanted: Beta testers...

Answering some questions about the controller. VRC/R can be controlled by:

- keyboard input :-(
- joy stick :-(
- dummy transmitter like joy stick like Real Race or Traxxas :-]
(require a game port, if only USB then you also need gameport-USB converter from RadioShack
- VRC-1 game-port adapter :-| (same issue with USB though...)
- new VRC-USB adapter :-))

Part of the beta test will be ordering the VRC-USB adapter so you will be able to hook up your receiver and control VRC/R with your own transmitter. We will offer a special arrangement for beta testers though.

See attached picture for the VRC-USB adapter.

Hi folks,

After reading through your responses it looks like a good time to clear up some issues. Firstly, Virtual RC Racing is primarily an offline game. In the final version you will be able to race against AI cars or run solo qualifying/hotlap style racing. AI cars are still being worked on so will not be available during the initial beta test. Multiplayer will be looked at later, no promises can be made at this stage.

Online racing: There is an important online aspect to Virtual RC Racing. There is no multiplayer racing, however. What we have in place right now is a system for competitions to be run online through a time trial basis. These are organized at the http://www.virtualrc.com website and include ladder style competitions where you can proceed through several rounds on your way to the finals in events set up by Virtual Racing Industries. These competitions are available to anyone who purchases a Racing License.

You'll be able to engage in centrally organized competitions with almost every other VRC/R racer on the planet. You will be able to view everyone's results and see how your driving skill, setup, and pitstop strategy compares with other racers without worrying about someone ruining your race by running the wrong way around the track, or deliberately crashing into you after a long trip to the finals. It's just you and the clock.

Even without a Racing License, you can upload your laptimes to our servers from inside the game and see how you rank against all other VRC drivers in the world at any track. There are daily rankings, weekly rankings, all-time best rankings, and so on. These are absolutely free to anyone who downloads the simulator and owns the track you want to run on. All you need is an internet connection.

Ok, on to another concern that some of you have expressed: PayPal.

Since this is a beta test, we need to test not only the game play, but also the website, ordering system (so people can purchase tracks and Racing Licenses), and the online time trial competition structure. PayPal is a convenient payment system and is the only form of payment we will be accepting. We of course need to make sure that our payment system works properly before going live with the final release.

We therefore need all beta testers to have a PayPal account and make purchases. We're not trying to make money on the beta test, but there's no other way to make sure the system works properly in all regards, so it's really our only option. Take heart however! During the beta test the cost of products will be vastly reduced and beta testers will be reimbursed.

We hope this clears up the issues that have been raised and answers your questions. "Online racing" here is not multiplayer. It is "online time trial competitions." Beta testers don’t pay for the tracks and the Racing license. If you want to keep the VRC-2 USB adapter you pay a reduced price only.

Those who doubt that Virtual RC Racing is for real, just don’t participate. You’ll just have to wait a little longer before you can play VRC/R.

The reactions so far have been very good and over the weekend we will be sorting out who will be on our team of beta testers. We need just 50, and we have already double… We’ll send e-mails after the weekend. I also intend to delete my initial announcement from this forum after the weekend to avoid that beta testers keep sending us e-mails and to have to disappoint them.

Thanks for your interest in VRC/R,

VRC/R Project Manager

Hi,

the response has been quite overwhelming, which is a good sign for VRC/R. We will not respond to every beta tester application we receive. Once we have made our final selection we will inform you all by e-mail on Monday.

Thanks,

VRC Project Manager

we will feature the most popular chassis in both 1/8 and 1/10, Associated, Kyosho, Serpent, Mugen, Yokomo, HPI are all done already! You're right VRC/R will give you very realistic practice at those tracks, and it will really feel like having been there already! Another image of JGIR posted (there will be animated trucks and busses driving over that motorway too...)

good job guys! for non australians. the sydney australia track is dead set perfect! i race there every fortnight. how about having secret "code accessed only" tracks from oz like a few of the other popular sydney tracks?

how would you imitate the traction for each track? i find it hard to believe that you will get the "traction" the same. good luck.

so how did you replicate JGIR? did you take pics of the track? tell us.
