Just wanted to see if anyone else was intersted in the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). You know Ultimate Fighitng, Pride and K-1. If so which do you all prefere, personally I think K-1 is the cream of the crop when it comes to MMA. Feel free to state your opinions.........

K-1 is the best!! I saw a 54 yr old Japanesse guy drop a 28 yr old Turkish brute with a single uppercut to the eye.....made that eye swell to the size of a fist!!! If I was to see that bout again, I will record it, because it was funny to see how it all played out.
Iv been a fan of UFC since UFC #2 way back in the day, and have loosly followed it even since. I enjoy pride too. Favorite all-time fighter = Vitor Belfort. I wish he was still on top of his game

Capt, we've been following this for about the same time. IO started watching a couple months after UFC 3 via VHS. We're old. Well, at least i am. . VHS. HA!
So, yeah, MMA, good stuff. Any of you been to any live shows? I've been to StrikeForce, EliteXC and UFC94. Also plan on going to see Fedor. IF he fights in San Jose.
Just to watch the fellas from my gym fight. I've been watching since UFC 1. Also watched it on VHS. I remember betting on fights with shots. If you wanna see some real raw stuff, check out any IVC. I swear the ref is only there to make sure one of the fighters didn't pull a knife out of his trunks. IVC 6 featured a young Chuck Liddell. Bare knuckles and what-not.

Me too! I had UFC #2 on VHS for years, and must of watched it 100 times. It has one of the most brutal fights in all of UFC history on it. Tall Patrick the kick boxer vs. crazy red head juijitzu guy. BRUTAL fight that lasted about 12 seconds.
Back then there were almost no rules. You had no rounds, no gloves, you could face stomp, elbow or knee the top of the head.... anything goes almost! SOO Much more entertaining
And the original date of the thread.. WOW

Yeah, the older UFC's now seem like a similar thing. Just don't bite, eye gouge or fishhook. Fun times. I think i enjoy it now more though. Mainly because people are more technical. If some brute goes in there, he'll get submitted. *clears lesnar throat* You gotta get some game, then come in and be a brute, you just can't be a brute anymore.
In my opinion, the "old days" are what's holding MMA back. People still associate the sport today with what it was back then. One look at Keith Hackney unloading consecutive, legal(back then) strikes to Joe Son's sack is all it takes for someone to be disgusted with the sport. Even though the sport has evolved greatly in the 15 years or so since that fight. The fighters today are the best athletes in the world and you still hear John McCains' voice saying "Human cockfighting".
UFC 4: Revenge of the Warriors was a mixed martial arts (MMA) event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on December 16, 1994, at the Expo Center Pavilion in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The event was seen live on pay-per-view, and later released on home video.
Also, I'm pretty sure it was KImo that got his hair pulled a few times. While these actions aren't aesthetically pleasing, they made the fights more "real".

Gracie vs. Kimo. UFC 3. Royce used Kimo's hair as a grip. Ended up ripping it out of his head.
Capt: The competitions you refer to are Vale Tudo (Portugese for 'anything goes') and have been around since the 1920's. Not the UFC. And yes....nut shots were legal. It was just a sort of an unspoken rule to not use them.
