I think part of it is both
GT Legends and
18WoS:ALH require too many buttons to be used during play. I've got a Logitech MOMO FF steering wheel for my laptop and it has just enough to comfortably play
Legends, but
18WoS I have to play using the keyboard. There's just too much stuff going on to use both the wheel and the keyboard.
GT Legends
Upper Left Button: Ignition switch
Upper Right Button: Starter
Middle Left Button: -empty-
Middle Right Button: Headlights
Lower Left Button: Clutch (used for standing starts, unless I can find a pedal set with 3 pedals I'll leave the Automatic Clutch assist turned on)
Lower Right Button: Pit Rev Limiter
Left Paddle: Glance Left
Right Paddle: Glance Right
(Both Paddles): Glance at mirror
Shifter Back: Upshift
Shifter Forward: Downshift
Only reason there's nothing for the middle left button is I have the wheel set up identically for
GTR2, a more modern FIA sports car racing sim, and in that game the middle left button is used to turn the windshield wipers on and off. Since they don't run vintage cars in the rain, no need for wipers
18 Wheels of Steel: American Long Haul

"Z" Key: Left turn signal
"X" Key: Right turn signal
"C" Key: Set cruise control
"V" Key: CB Radio (Number keys "1-6" to select topic, then "1-4" to select phrase)
"A" Key: Glance Left
"S" Key: Glance Right
Left Shift Key: Toggle GPS Mode (Near, Far, Off/Show Right Side Mirror)
Left Alt Key: Jake Brake
Left Ctrl Key: Windshield Wipers on/off
Spacebar: Parking Brakes
"F" Key: 4-Way Flasher
Right Shift Key: Headlights (Low beam, High beam, Off)(If you don't have your headlights on during the hours of 7:00PM to 6:00AM, you may be pulled over by police)
Right Ctrl Key: Airhorns
"T" Key: Attach/Detach Trailer
"E" Key: Engine start/stop
Enter Key: Perform Action when parked over an icon (enter a customer business, park a truck/trailer in a garage/parking lot, pump diesel at a gas station, enter a hotel, enter a used truck dealership, enter truck repair/upgrade shop)
"N" Key: Open management window
Might've noticed I don't have any shifter buttons mapped. You can play the game with a manual transmission, but for me that just makes things WAY too busy while I'm driving. Especially now that I've got a good business running and I can afford to put an 18-speed in my own truck. Way too much shifting.
18WoS's system requirements are pretty low, on my 5-6 year old HP Pavilion Entertainment Edition laptop as long as I have the resolution at 800x600 and reflection detail set to "low" the game runs plenty smooth enough. It's dirt cheap too, you can usually find it at Wal-Mart's discount rack for around $10-15 or buy it online from the website:
