Talking Stoked RC Club, Revelstoke B.C.

Starting an RC Club here in Revelstoke, B.C. and looking for Racers

This is my winter project to get some Racing going in Revelstoke and I would be very grateful for any information to help me get started. Right now I am designing flyers to post around town, looking into area's to build an outdoor Off Road track, and researching for my proposal to the municipality. This is going to be an Electric Club, no offense Nitro guys/girls but I believe it will be a lot easier to get approval from the muni, and get beginners into racing if it's just electric for now at least. Big emphasis is going to be put on Short Course Trucks to entice people into the hobby without breaking the bank. With Christmas coming up it is a great time to do some demo's at hockey games etc. There are so many great areas to build a track here I don't think it will be too hard to get approval but I need to find a bunch of people that are interested. Thankfully I have a lot of time to canvass around town. Track building I know well enough, built one solo back in the day, but proposing a Track to the municipality that's going to be a challenge. Thanks a million for any information you can give me.
Cheers

WTG Mark, kudos to you for starting something up in that beautiful part of the world.
Ive told you a few things already and priority imo is recruiting a few people in your area to form a group. Find a spot in town where some people are and run your car. Have an info sheet to hand out to anyone who shows interest. It will take some time so be patient.
Once theres a few people on board you can begin to make realistic goals.
Try to make it down here for a race sometime to chat further.

good luck

I can draft up a sample info sheet if you need.

Thanks for the support Bernie.
Starting work on a info sheet right now, I'll send you a copy, feedback would be great. One roommate is a graphic designer the other used to work for the muni There are two new schools being built in town next year and since Mountain View Elementary is a Heritage building they will not be tearing it down. Off-Road Track? On-Road Track?? Indoor Track??? Indoor Off-Road Track?????? Lots of possibilities here.
Cheers
Mark

When your dealing with the municipality don't forget that you're providing a new attraction to the town. They want this kind of thing as long as you can show you have enough member's to warrant it. Put an Ad in the local paper looking for member's to create a local club, canvas door to door, display's in the grocery store. Bring this info to council. As long as you can prove the town wants an R/C track they will help you with the rest of the details to make it happen.

It only took one crazy teenager's idea up here to get a few guys together and form the GPMRA. You just have to find the other people in town who want to race.

Dont be discouraged about the lack of help here Mark, its kind of off season for offroad. Just try and find some others to bash with for now, then grow from there. I'll help you out however I can.

Default Class Outlines (rough draft)

Bernie, thanks for all the support. Have a blast with your new XX4, I look forward to racing it in the spring

Mark thanks for the interest, glad to find some interested parties so soon. Guess there are some Nitro guys in town but you can be converted Do you guys have any contacts for a place to build a track?? I am hoping to get approval for use at the back of the ball diamonds behind the track & field area. Nitro would probably be an issue there and I can't really think where it would not be an issue to be honest. For a track I have been thinking more along the lines of a U.K. grass track but with more North American style jumps. That would be an easy sell to the council because it would not require excavating or major changes and if it didn't work out they would not have to be worried about the cost of fixing the area. Any locations that you know of that we could build on where noise would not be an issue? Here are some class outlines I've been working on

Default Track Design

Apparently I designed an almost identical track to Thompson Valleys without even knowing it. Weird. The starting grid needs to be changed, the first corner would be a carnage. The "jump" on the back straight would be a big roller to cut down speed from the long sweeper. Track dimensions are 100'x60' with 8' foot lanes.

As much as possible Bernie
The back straight would be raised and dipped just enough not to air off but to unweight the cars. Than the second 180 turn after the big straight is going to be a 2 tier step-up step-down corner. At least that's the plan Google Sketch is the bomb, 3D, and it's free!
