Default Tech Night

Just an idea, would there be enough interest from the club members to set up the track during the week for a tech night. I'm not sure how many people we would need but it would give us all extra stick time....

Jason, what do you think could a tech night be incorporated into tech / track night?

Default I agree but

the biggest hurdle would probably be the pastors approval
I work evenings but I could probably deal with a sick day every now and again

Ive never seen anyone in the church besides on a sunday. Most of the club doesn't want a second place to play at, but im sure were going to have a second place sooner then later.

Default Da ja vu

Didn't we just talk about this on Sunday?? And all vote against having a place to practice?

Anyway, yes the Pastor would be the one to talk to, and yes we could probably put Tech Night as part of this practice night. The biggest issue I have is it would take 30mins minimum to setup the track, and same to tear down depending on how many people show.

There's a few options here, but again first step is to talk to the Pastor.

Curtis,

That church is used by all sorts of Community groups, at various times during the week. We would have to check.

Ok, then lets talk to the Pastor, for Thursday Night. I'm hope it dosen't seem like I'm try to push this to hard but if we're going to do it then lets do it. Also if and when and if a second location happens then, we can support that.

I wonder if there is any place in town that has some extra warehouse space availible to set up a permanent track??? The ROCK might even be able to provide some extra carpet to help make that happen.

Default not confused

Dan's not confused...he was there for the vote, and knew the options...I think he's trying to make a point that we did have this opportunity and the club majority, voted it down. little ironic i think.

Anyway. Tech Night this week will be held at Interior R/C. Not sure about a lesson yet...have to think of one.

As I understood it, and that is absolutely no guarantee that its right, Eric is willing to set up a "short" track (length of track limited to about 50 ft) in a warehouse he owns, for at least part of the Winter. This could be available for mid-week "track nights", or for races on the weekends where there is no racing at the Church.

The vote that took place last Sunday was whether or not the club should give up the church gym in favour of moving all racing to Eric's warehouse.

Had the suggestion been made that both facilities could be available, I think the vote would have gone completely the other way. I think it was the genuine concern of losing the Church facility that led the vote, not the rejection of the idea of a second, smaller facility that would be available for races ot other times, and for practice sessions.

This one's going to make me even more unpopular.....but a short track facility is ideal for 1/12th scales and 1/18th scales, as you can narrow down the lanes and create a more interesting track for those scales in the smaller area....but that's not good for 1/10th scale classes.

I believe that was why we saw a resurgence of 1/12th scale racing in Kelowna a few years ago when they had only a small facility.....

Yes, the Minis would do OK as well.....BTW, I hope to have my 18R pretty much up to speed with the Minis next time.....I learned a lot about it last week, and it's not far off the pace.....

Default Second track...

Let's put an end to this discussion. First of all I never had the intention to create a heated debate within the club regarding this matter. I do apologize if I offended anybody or talked before my turn.

So what happened? A few weeks ago I did mention to Jason that one of our tenants had ended their lease for a 5200 sq area within our "business complex" It's a warehouse of about 50 x 110 ft with an open area of 50x50 and some additional room with posts.

I did not have a new tenant for the area for the last few months and came up with the idea to utilize the area and make it to good use by offering it to the club. It's empty anyway. At first I discussed a small fee to cover the hydro and heating expenses but later waived these expenses since the will be minimal.

As a good club member Jason did the right thing and asked fellow members if the liked the idea with pro's and Cons and all club members at the race made their vote heard and decided for valid reasons against it.

Again, my intention is not to bypass the club or offend anybody, but I made clear that even if the club did not pursue this I would probably do it on my own account. Not to be a smartss but for my own reasons. I think it would be great if we could get a bit more stick time to practice. Once every 2 weeks is a bit shy for us newbees.

So this is the situation at the moment. I will have a meeting with some folks tomorrow who are interested in renting the place. Nothing firm yet but stuff can move fast. However I will put my money where my mouth is and suggest the following:

If the Kelowna guys would be so nice to lend us some carpets for a little while I will get them shipped here. I will also supply some lumber to build a track. We will set up the track in the vacant 5200 sq ft warehouse till rented.
F.Y.I. it is possible to make a 75 ft track in the vacant area. There are just some 6x6" posts every 16 ft. If for any reason the folks decided to rent the place on short notice, as a backup I will supply another area within the same building. this area is our future warehouse and will be about 45x75 ft. However, I can only offer/guarantee this area till mid December.

What do we need: Carpet and a few hours track setup. What do we get: at least 6 weeks of additional track time.

If for any reasons this will not work for you guys I will put it to rest and just buy a small piece of carpet to use in the workshop at home. (this will be a very, very, very small track)
Whatever the outcome is it will be all good to me.

Thanks again and talk to you soon.

Erik and Sam "the man" G
