I believe the Lethbridge race is March 15, 16, 17. Five or six drivers planning to go from Kamloops - we're waiting for confirmation on the rules being applied. (Foam tires or not, 4 door bodies or whatever, etc). These will have an effect on who enters which class.

Default Lethbridge Race

The race is the 23,24 of March. I understand that there may be practice the night of the 22nd if the track is set up in time. The tires are slicks for all Touring car. Not sure about bodies.

Killer Bee, are you sure ? We asked Paul in Calgary to check it out for us, and we got the earlier date. The 23/24 March takes out the entire Kamloops contingent. Good thing we hadn't booked a hotel.

That's a shame - we were looking forward to it. Never mind - probably couldn't have afforded the trip anyway.

Hey west coast racers...

What are you guys doing in regards to ROAR allowing foams indoor touring car classes?

Here in Ontario/Quebec (Ottawa)we are debating weather to follow suit. Personally from running nitro i know its a no brainer. Foams are the way to go...

How closely are your clubs rules to the ROAR rules? OR are your clubs ROAR affiliated?

Yes the race in Lethbridge is the weekend of the 23 - 24 March.

Regina was a blast.

For carpet we are finishing the season on rubber but it looks like next season we will be on foams. The rest of the rules are in effect including the 10 turn /5:00 min run time.We have been doing well with this but there are some guys split on the foams issue.I myself would rather be on rubber since it is a bit less forgiving and makes it a bit more challenging to drive.Plus I like the realism of rubber.

In the Interior of BC (Inferno is from the Coast) we never stopped running on foams on carpet at the club level (for either stock or mod). We only restrict TC's to rubber for major events where we are looking to get significant out-of-town participation. A couple of drivers tried to persuade everyone to go with rubber, but they've never been able to persuade us to do it.

As someone who has run both, I no longer bother to run my TC on carpet if I have to run Rubber. Outside of a few top drivers, I find there is too much hacking and banging - not really the drivers fault, the tires are simply unable to allow you to make sudden changes in direction. As a former (real) racing driver, I would say driving TC's on rubber on carpet is fairly similar to Ice racing - you can go fast, but if someone moves across, or spins in front of you, there's little you can do once you are comitted to a line. On foams, it is like running on reasonable racing tires - traction is good, but you can still drift the car consistently and controllably, and you do have more chance of avoiding "incidents". Frankly, it makes for better racing.

And it's cheaper, too.

I guess we won't be seeing the other Tri Cities guys in Lethbridge after all. Maybe next year.

If you have the right rubber and set up your car can handle quite well.Mine drives just like it is on asphalt on a warm day.All you have to do is spend some time tweaking and adjusting just like a real race car it does not work until you get it set up.

Inferno, this discussion is going nowhere. I have driven both, and I know what the car does. It is NOT a case of car set-up. My car is the Axis 2 that R.J. drove to a top ten finish in mod in the "A" at the big Abbotsford race last year - on rubber. The set-up is the same, and other drivers who have driven it also find it well set up. The issue is the rubber. I simply don't like the feel of driving the car on rubber. I can race better on foams, I hit other drivers less, I AM hit less, and over a five minute race my times are better. In "one off" laps, the rubber is as quick as foam. But when you throw in the variables of six or seven other cars on the track, and the need to continually change lines to pass (or be passed), the overall times are better on foam. That is my opinion after trying both.

You have driven 1/12th scale on foams. The handling of a 4wd touring car is vastly different to that - frankly nowhere near as good. The 1/12th car is a specialist car, purpose designed for carpet racing. You are not comparing similar items.

Since we are getting nowhere, I think I've said as much as I'm willing to say on the topic. If you want to compare foams to rubber, try it yourself, on YOUR car. Not just doing laps, but in racing situations. Then you can give an informed opinion.

Whoa ....before you jump too high.I never said I only drive foams on 1/12th scale. In fact I have raced Nitro touring on foam and electric touring on foam.I think FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that foams are the easy way out of learning to drive and set up a car.Foam tyres are easier to drive on and thus you can screw up and take a bad line without hurting your lap times much, rubber on the other hand takes skill to drive with and thus you must learn to take the pass when it becomes available and take certain lines....like in real racing. And yes I do know from experience since Apollo likes to run with foams and I do run there in the summer.
Now you were sayin?

Thanks team manager:

Its good to here you guys already run them. Not to turn this into a huge arguement here is an example of what i see with rubber tires.

When racing a major Toronto race in January i was surrounded by some top Canadian talent (2 of which won the stock classes at cleavland this year another won tickets to japan ) Basically there were 10 really great drivers there. And rubber tires were in use. Many of the FAST guys claimed that the tires were good for about 3 to 4 runs. Proof of this was walk throught the pits where is saw tires mounting all weekend..... Point is that these guys no how to drive and set up a car but yet still did not feel that one set of tires could do the job from Friday to Sunday... Even locally many guys are mounting up fresh tires quite often..

On the other end of things i race 1/12th as well. Traction is there from new to rim. You change your gearing to maintian roll out and thats about it. When i used to run 1/1oth pan it was the same thing... Traction was never one of those topics that a pan car driver wish he had more of. He simply had enough or more then enough...

Cost wise and traction wise for all levels of driver i think the foams are the way to go...

Anyway thanks for the responces

Inferno...OK, I apologise for the misunderstanding - most of the guys posting on the other thread have not run on foam. But I don't apologise for my opinion.

Pitbull...I think the current score is 3 - 1 (unless I missed a yerar somewhere). But you can certainly close the gap if you win it this year. (I thought you guys had won it for sure last year ! The final result was a big surprise.)

Joel...yes, the cost issue is often overlooked, or even denied. But I sell a lot of new rubber tires just before big races (and inserts, and rims).

Enough.
