I'm not the most knowledgeable on this issue. perhaps someone can help out. it seems to me the brushless and 19t are similiar, but the brushless is advantageous. from what I can interpret the brushless runs cooler and at a higher rate of performance over a length of time. It also reduces the amount of risk, which was equal, due to the chance of burning out a motor. I understand the guidelines set in place will stand, but maybe a separate class would be a good idea at some point.

thx

Just really wondering for going forward into a new season.
Hi, Stu.

Here's the pecking order in general terms:

10.5
19T
13.5
27T
17.5

27T and 17.5 are quite close and a 13.5 is faster than a 27T. 17.5 and 27T has been endorsed by ROAR for Stock and 10.5 and 19T has been endorsed for 2008 ROAR Super Stock rules. Theoretically, on carpet, the BL has the advantage and on asphalt it's the other way around. That's theory based on torque values. The track layout really impacts head production in the BL.

For example, at the Kamloops Mid Winter Challenge, I chased Mick in Pro10 with my 10.5 and he ran a 19T. We finally got it about equal with Mick running LiPo and me running NiMh. However, I went up one tooth and my motor temp went from 148 to a whopping 258 degrees. I was out front but thermalled in the last 15 seconds. If I had been running LiPo I could have left the gearing as it was and probably would have the advantage in terms of power (driving is a different story LOL) since the LiPo will sustain 7 volts at 100 watts whereas a NiMh will drop down to 6 volts. Outdoors, a good RPM K19T on a large track may be advantageous but who knows. We run generally med-tight tracks in the west indoors and out.

I hope this helps.

Phil

Phil,

that does help a lot!
Thanks for taking the time to put a great reply together.

They are just 2 different technologies, and as such perfom differently.
If I don't make it to this race, I'll be very interested to see what works best.

Smile Stock Touring

No, as stated in the rules, Stock is Stock Brushed and Brushed only. We have not had any interest in this and we will not be entertaining this at this particular race. Maybe at races in the future.

Hi Brent
I wished for the 17.5 stock class ..so far I have 17.5 13.5 and no 10.5 because the 10.5 is going way next year 2009...I may have to skip this one....
