A month a go or so I heard about an oval event on the carpet; when is this event scheduled? I heard it might be in 2 weeks?
I saw some posts that said there would be classes for us "normal" on-road guys to run; would this be sedans and/or 1/12th, etc? Would oval bodies be required, allowed?
Where can I get some info on what to plan for and maybe some hints on how to prepare the car for the event?
Would like to join in on the oval event.
Thanks
The Oval track will be setup for practice Friday afternoon on the 13th (Not sure yet what time I can get there to do it.). The oval classes will be oval pan cars using 21.5 motors and 2S lipos split into expert and sportsman. There will also be 21.5 Nastrucks (same batteries). As far as running anything else, I'll leave that up to whoever shows up to run. You bring it, you can go roundy roundy with us throughout the 3 qualifiers and mains. Scoring will resort the heats after every round or just for the last round depending on time.
Saturday will be doors at noon and racing at 3pm.
This will be the last race on the carpet before it gets ripped up so come on out. The oval turnout should be quite decent.
The carpet track in So Cal closing is a god damn shame!
I am as guilty as anyone of not making more of an effort to support this amazing opportunity.
I love racing on it but did not push myself to get here as often as I should have.
Very sorry OCRC Crew!
How bout it people, Thursday nite. (Still get a last ride?)
F1s wanna make a showing?
I'm down for F1 and Mini.

Don't lose heart guys West Coast R/C is only 11 miles from here and has one of the most incredible asphalt on road tracks I have ever seen. (And a pretty MACHO off-road as well)
On road racing has been on a ventilator for a long time and is going to take some time to rehab now that So Cal has a great indoor track again.
If you guys don't want to see another on road facility shut down I would strongly suggest supporting Danny and WCRC. Lots of effort put in over there and it would be a shame to see it go.
We will be having our final Thursday night carpet race 11/12, and and oval race 11/14
Come on down and play on the rug 1 last time
Thanks again to all of the racers who have been so very loyal to OCRC
And I am truly sorry to pull the rug out from under you
RB, Thanks for taking the plunge with the carpet, your on-road track is what got Alex excited about doing RC again, it's a shame there was not a better group showing up for 13.5 Sedan, but we are just as guilty as anybody.
We should all recognize the efforts RB has made to ensure that the OC stays the hotbed for RC racing, just look how the 8th scale stuff has taken off.
Thanks RB

Even if I didn't run much on the rug, I had a blast with the carpet track. I wish I could race for the last time but prior obligations' preventing me to do it. At least all's not lost for you'll be expanding the dirt. Those who are going to OCRC carpet for the last time, have fun.

Like many great things, they have to end. With the times being so hard and the dollar just is not as easy to come by these days, i have yet experienced another moment in RC that i have taken to heart.
I have to admit, a year ago when the carpet track first was built, i was sketchy just because it was unfamiliar to me. I ran carpet back in the mid 90's at BW Raceway and although it was cool..it was just too small and not as fun from what i remembered. This track was HUGE compared to any other carpet track i have ever been to! As i slowly started coming more and more to OCRC's Carpet track, I started to really appreciate what it really was and what it stood for for quite a few people who were fortunate enough to race on it. I mean, from my pitting outdoors, to the awesome indoor pits, power, blower, driver's stand, it really is one awesome facility.
I never really won at that track, in fact, i don't think i have ever won at either off road or on road, but the thing i missed the most was JUST RACING. It is NEVER the same when you run a race and TRY to race at the same time...the experience is not as WHOLE as it would if it were just ME and my car to deal with ALL Night...not racers telling me my computer missed a lap, racers asking my what their lap times were, and me trying to get my body clips on my car at the same time. This, to me was MY TIME.
Tonight, with the familiar faces who have not only welcomed me since i been coming, but have grown to call them my RC family, had the LAST on road race together in this awesome track. Moose, Grandpa, Mike Ricca,RB, Nick B, Lee, Bad Santa, Eric Poholski,Mike M, Jeff Smith, Dave Berger, and a few of the other regulars always have a good thing to say and offer their help to me where ever i need it was there tonight to race Mini and Sedan. I had an awesome time! Racing Mini i almost caught up to Lee, but he got away. Sedan, i battled with RB the whole race till the last 1/10000000 of a second for him to pull me before the finish line. I have to say, it was the best race i have had in all my times racing at OCRC. Yes, i lost, but damn..it was a GREAT TIME!
As the race ended, All of the racers mentioned took the time and huddled together and personally thanked Robert Black for providing this track for all of us. All BS aside, all politics aside, this was a TRUE gesture of appreciation. Something even words can not describe, yet it was so heart felt. Although i was not as frequent as these guys were racing at OCRC, i sure felt VERY privileged to be part of this group tonight, to the point that i felt sick inside that this track was being taken away from such a great group of guys. They will no longer have their carpet track they they will call their "HOME TRACK". They will not longer get together and have their on road experience on Thursday and Saturday nights. And they will have wonderful memories of a short time in Huntington Beach California that will last them a lifetime.
As i reflect on my own experiences running my own races, i have grown to appreciate the support i have gotten through these years and know that i possibly given the racers the same experience. There was nothing but COMPLETE GRATITUDE on the faces of everyone that was there tonight. That is something i admire so much for RB who has gained the respect and admiration of these few good people. If i can get anything close to what i saw tonight for my program, all the hadships i had to go through all these years especially this year running races would have been all worth it. My hat goes out to you RB, Nick, and family. You gave us something that we will forever be grateful for. THANK YOU for giving us a place to race. I will say goodbye to the carpet track, but not to OCRC, for you will always have a supporter from me. Cheers everyone!
My 2 cents....

Great post Charlie...I will definately miss the carpet...Racing 12th scale is soo much fun...you will never be hooked up as much as a 12th scale on the rug.
Today is the last race ever for the carpet at OCRC. Its an oval race. All cars are welcome...minis , 12th scale, 10th scale sedans, whatever you want to run to go around and around and around in 4 seconds.
Thanks to RB for giving us some fun on the rug...
