Default Buyer paid by "friends+family"

I didn't ask for it but the buyer paid the friends method to "save me some money". He's also zero feedback 9 post joined in July. That part I am not too concerned with ($20) but his general method bothers me. Am I wrong in thinking that someone who will "cheat" the system using the Friends pay may be slightly more inclined to do something else odd? Should I mention it ? point him to the BST faq's ? He paid last night (2:30am) and I will ship it by 2pm my time, a little over six hours from now.... One thing I will definitely do is mention how nice it is and convenient to others to put your location in your avatar or at least your profile. He is located in Hawaii so the postage was a surprise.

I had a buyer pay that way a while back ($120), similar story where he had 0 feedback and less than 10 posts. I immediately refunded the money to him and explained the process / how to pay the correct way. He sent the money the correct way. I would rather lose the couple bucks myself and be protected then to be out it if something were to happen. I got a similar felling as you did.

Ouch, shipping costs to Hawaii on a $20 sale... Probably almost everyone won't ship to him, so "gifting" you the money might just be his way of silently begging you to be ok paying to ship overseas. I would refund the money, have him pay for merchandise, and charge him more for incremental shipping costs.

He honestly probably doesn't know any better. He's lucky he did it with you and not some of the other shady clowns that unfortunately lurk around here.

People outside the lower 48 really need to let sellers know before hand.

Just got back home. Thanks for the advice. Shipping costs only $5.80 usps flat rate so no biggie. Should I really be worried about PP ? I have "some" faith in people. I'm tempted to just send it. If I get taken and expose a scammer so be it. Parts sitting on a shelf for 15 years for a vehicle I sold 5 years ago ain't doing me any good.

Oh thats funny.... I pm' him what I was gonna do and then I just did the refund and noticed he paid me $20 when the price was $25 via earlier pm's.... oh joy : ) I think that deal is done.
EDIT: The buyer asked for an invoice and i'm not sure how to check but I think I sent him an invoice for $20 by mistake. Our pm's here clearly said $25. hooey, a pothole of my making. So if you all feel I need to honor my invoice of $20 lmk. I'd rather not as I think I already was giving him a good deal. Heres the ad http://www.rctech.net/forum/r-c-item...xxt-parts.html

If you already refunded him his money ($20), then I'd say there is no deal and you both can move on. A seller can change his mind about selling an item as he wishes. Long as any money that was sent if refunded. jmo

So you invoiced the buyer, and he paid as a gift? I don't ever use the "send invoice" feature of PayPal, but that sounds odd...

I didn't realize USPS Flat Rate included Hawaii. $5.80 is great. In my experiance, UPS Ground costs 3X to 4X more shipping to Hawaii than within lower 48 states.

At this point it sounds like you could invoice him for the correct amount this time, ask him to be sure he doesn't send funds as a gift, and move along with things as you normally would.

I had the buyer do that once on 0 feedback. I kept it and told the buyer why he shouldn't do that in the future. Was appreciative that I mentioned it. Made sure he was happy with the item.

If you think about it... There is undeniable increased shipping cost for USPS to send mail to Alaska and Hawaii, but they charge the same flat rate. If Alaska and Hawaii were excluded from USPS flat rate shipping, our shipping costs would go down within the lower 48. Or contiguous or conterminous or whatever you want to call it. EDIT: Unless this is just one of the many reason USPS is going downhill fast

Born and raised there. Agree on flat rate.

It's all good. He took it like a man.... all would have been fine if I had simply given him my PP earlier, Iv'e only done the invoice thing twice as I recall. Gotta say I kinda feel bad about being so cautious over such a small amount. oh well. As Racer1812 would say THREAD CLOSED.
