Default St Ives On Road ready to roll

After a long wait the time is finally near, St Ives On Road club will begin racing in February 2006 and I would just like to thank all of the members who have worked hard to make this happen, especially Margaret and Tony who found the venue and carried through all the negotiations with council and the paperwork for insurance. Without dedicated hard working members such as yourselves the rest of us wouldn't have anywhere to race.

Okay enough of the mushy stuff down to business, the venue is the North Narrabeen Reserve which is off Pittwater Rd, (called Walsh St.) if you are coming from the North (Palm Beach end) or if you are coming from the Manly end you turn into Berry Ave then enter off Walsh st.

Racing will be held on Sundays with entries being taken from around 9.30 (as long as I don't sleep in ) and racing will start at 10.30am. At this stage we plan to have novice, 1/10th stock and mod electric tourer and 1/10th gas pull start and bump start. To qualify for pull start the engine must be side exhaust, any rear exhaust pull starts will have to run in bump start. Other classes may be added if there is sufficient interest, but there would need to be a minimum of 4 drivers wanting to enter the class.

We plan to have 3 rounds of qualifying for electric and gas. Electric will then get 3 finals and gas will get a 15-20 minute final depending on the number of entries on the day. The surface is pretty smooth ashphalt and from the one run we have had there grip seems reasonable with fairly low tyre wear. The track layout is variable so we will be happy to take any suggestions for improvements. We will start with the track we ended up with on the practice day which seemed to be a good compromise of speed and skill. The drivers stand is similar to the one at Eastern Creek and transponders will be used, though at this stage we only have the older system so no personals. However if enough of you turn up over the coming months an AMB-RC system is on the Christmas shopping list.

The race dates for 2006 are
12th Feb. 06
12th Mar. 06
26th Mar. 06
23rd Apr. 06
28th May. 06
25th June. 06
23rd July. 06
27th Aug. 06
10th Sept. 06
24th Sept. 06
8th Oct. 06
22nd Oct. 06
12th Nov. 06
26th Nov. 06
10th Dec. 06

Unfortunately due to prior committments to the baseball crowd we couldn't get 2 races every month in 06 but we have been assured that we will in 07.

Hope to see you all there on the 12th if there is anything I have forgotten or you would like to know just ask.

Thanks,
Chris Marshall

wow great news indeed. A new northern sydney club, and one that actually caters to Nitro! I might just have to get the MTX3 out of the garage for a play!

Just a reminder the first St Ives on-road meeting is on this Sunday 12th of Feb. We will start setting the track up at 9am and hope to have it ready for practice by 10am.

Racing will start at about 10.30. 3 heats and 3 finals for electric and 3 heats and a 15 minute final for gas, time permitting.

Entry fee is $10 for first class and $5 for additional classes, $8 for Juniors.

See the first post for information on classes and directions to the track. If anyone has any additional questions just ask.

Just thought I'd post a final reminder that St Ives kicks off Sunday morning (12/2). If you want to help set up be there at about 9am, if you want to practice be there by 10am and if you want to race in the first round please don't be later than 10.20am.

Can take later entries but you will miss the first round. If you want to enter and know you will be late just give me a call in the morning after 9.30 should have the computer up and running by then. Call 0404 001 705

Hope to see a lot of new faces,

Chris Marshall

Just a reminder the second meeting for the new ST Ives on road will be on this coming Sunday 12th Mar. 06. We realise this clashes with the on road round but unfortunately our dates were locked in before the challenge was finalised and given expenses to run the club we can't afford to drop a round.

So anyone who feels like racing but can't make it to Gosford we would be happy to help you with your racing fix at St Ives/Narrabeen. We should have 3 heats 3 finals for electric and 3 heats and 15 minutes finals for gas. Just read a bit further up for the track details.

Unfortunately I forgot my camera last meeting so didn't get any pictures. Will try to find it before Sunday though so if you can't make it this weekend should have some pictures next week.

Practice can start as soon as the track is layed out and the drivers stand is constructed. How soon that happens depends on how many people get there early and volunteer to help set everything up.

Remember unlike some clubs everyone working at this club does so on a purely voluntary basis no one is payed for their time all money goes back into improving the facilities available for us the racers. So if people want to just sit back and let the normal few do all the work then your practice time will be limited it is up to you. I'll climb down off my soap box now

My understanding is we will be there setting up from about 9, Stuart will be there with the blower around 8. Hope to see lots of new faces.
