Heck, you should be careful with a brushless system in that. They're not really made to handle that sort of power. I wouldn't run it on anything besides loose dirt or u may strip your gears!
Your car is an old design. Old Tamiya cars are great fun for playing and really tough. The standard wheel sizes for today are different tho.
My favourite tyres for playing in the dirt are Proline Calibers. You'll need new generic rims (not a tamiya part) with the correct size hex (12mm i think). You'll need to take it to your LHS (local hobby shop)
You need standard size 4wd buggy rims to be able to use the different sorts of buggy tyres out there. Go to a hobbyshop that sells cars for racing (losi, associated, xray, yokomo, mugen etc..). Not a big chain shop like "SIK" that sells cheap chinese stuff. Those shops will not help u.
Good Luck!

Hi Jay,
If by thicker tires you mean taller I wouldn't do that, the front would rub the bumper. If you mean wider tires you would have a simular issue. Check out what your local hobby shop has as far as some descent rubber, tamiya does do 2.2 rims that will fit good rubber, you will just have to track some down.
There is a possibility of getting some wide offset low profile stadium truck wheels and tires to fit but that would be about it.
