Lowndes I hope. Im a FORD follower since, forever... but he is the new Brock. Great driver, excellent people person, always got a smile on his face win or lose/crash and he was the protege of Brock. Frosty or Gizza would be nice to see on the Podium with him. Had enough of Whincup, his head is getting too big these days, and I can see some Skaife crawling into his personality lately.

Cheers

The race lost it when it went from a 62 car field down to what 28 cars these days . I was a flaggie there from the mid 70's to the mid 80's and honestly they were the great years , the drivers had to know the cars as well as drive them, no engineer telling them stuff, the actual drivers had to make decisions.

Thats spots on. Even had most of their interiors in the cars. Dick Johnsons Greens TuF XE even had the sheepskin covers on the seats!
Its all data logging these days, engineers doing the stats and computers making the predictions. Nothing like the good ol days. Cant say im going to enjoy the introduction of Merc's of all things...

I don't know, the change in the rules next year might rekindle some interest in it for me. I don't really like spec racing, but I like parity racing even less – it's the most artificial. Motor sport for me is about trying to build the best car, at least with the new rules any manufacturer who wants to will have the opportunity, even if the rules are extremely limiting. They're basically building the same car, but at least workmanship can be a differentiator.

The other thing that kills Bathurst for me is the SC. It's not a 1000 km race any more, it's a series of elimination sprint races. I really can't see why instead of bunching everyone up behind a SC we can't have a full course speed limit with double waved yellows and an even lower incident speed limit around any wreckage that needs to be cleared. Then the gaps between cars would be maintained, and the sporting aspect wouldn't be sacrificed at the alter of entertainment.

+1

I can remember growing up and watching all the different cars & classes in the race.
Some that come to mind, Torana's, Charger's, Falcon's, Camaro's, Jag's, Nissan Bluebird's & Skyline's, Mitsubishi Scorpion's etc.

And the real winners are the merchandise divisions of Holden & Ford for the last how many years? Hear that sound? cha-ching, cha-ching!

Cheers
Rob.
