Default SHIRE OFF ROAD ANYONE???

Okay i'm starting to get serious about approaching the local council and requesting an off road track in the Sutherland Shire... I was thinking around the new sport facility / tip / nuclear reactor. yes a reactor!

But first i would need numbers of people that are interested and start a club.

I'm sure i'm not the only one out here that hates driving across the city just to get to a track.

Anyone else been thinking of doing a club out this way?

Ideally the track would be for both 1/8 and 1/10 scale.

Any takers or comments???

The PCYC at Sutherland used to have an offroad club at menai back in the 90s, would be good to have something like that again

Sounds like a pretty hard sell.

Say you did have a decent number of interested racers, what is your strategy to get this to fly?

H-store hobbies were pushing for it for basically the entire time the store was open. I think the closest they got was some indoor flight nights at the basketball courts that allowed cars to run on the courts.

anyone got more info as to why H-store closed? I can figure out most of the details based on the hobby king partnership but if anyone has more details id be keen to know, i was there pretty frequently when i lived in the area.

They didn't close, i spoke to one of the guys a while back and they are moving to a warehouse in Kirrawee.

I knew about the motor bike club but wasn't aware they had an rc club to, thanks.

I will wait and see what sort of responses i get here... and when hstore / hobbyking re-open i will speak to the guys there and pcyc.

theres been plenty of decent places.

finding some unused ground and putting it to use similar to the ryde club is all it takes.

I know of a few places that ive been in the desert of menai that would be great for it if you could keep the motox guys out.

Last time i went by where the old menai track was the driver stand was still there, although this was a couple of years ago. although it is very sandy soil around there, but used to be ok to race on.

Good luck with your plans.

OK. Well I was on the committee of the old Sutherland Shire track at The Tip. A bit of history. It started at Sylvania near the Rugby ground on Box Road then moved to Taren Point behind Flower Power. Then with the assistance of the PCYC at Sutherland it moved to the Tip at Lucas Heights.
The track was located behind the mini bike club. As you turn into the tip the entrance is on the left. The club folded many years ago due to lack of numbers and the remaining members then raced at Bankstown. From what I understand the drivers stand is still there.

Its been many years since I have been there but what I can remember was the drivers stand was very high and could be seend from the road, though the trees might have grown a bit since then.

Some drivers who raced there were Andrew Miller,Leigh Nelson,Craig Larkin, The Shoebridges,Myself,Peter Ready and a few others. We raced in the ORRCA Cup and hosted a round.

Back then there was nothing out there and the facilities were very basic and club exposure was low. But now we have the internet and people are keen to travel a bit more so I wish you the best of luck with finding a track location in the "Shire".
