Default charging AA NIMH ..Help pls

Hi Guy,

I want to seek your expert opinion about charging AA NIMH Battery.
I have InteliPeak Ice Charger. I am charging 4 cells AA Nimh 2700 mAh battery.

Charge current 0.5a
Discharge current o.5a
Peak Sensitive: 9 mV/C

The problem - Before the battery even get warm the charger already give me the message End: Delta Peak" . However, the battery not even reach the full charge capacity
I already tried to readjust the Peak sensitive from 5mV/C. to 9 mV/C

any idea or solution

keep going up in mv, try up to 12mv per cell for cut off.
Some chargers are not a mv per cell, check what your ICE is, i owned one years ago but i have forgotten. you have written /c so i assume its definatly a per cell setting for that charger.

If its not per cell you have to work it out for the amount of cells you are charging etc for the total mv cuttoff you want.

Also poor quality cells/old cells or bad/ loose/dirty connections also cause false peak as well.

It is good that you are only doing 0.5amp charge rate as more than about 0.7amp for AA cells will cause false peaks.

You need to have real good wiring going to them, not extreamly thin wires and servo plugs, jst red plugs and slightly thickers wires in the whole connection is better for not getting false peaks, check the ends of the cells for any markings from the factory (printed on) or corrosion etc. and definatly stay away from those 9v battery style conectors on the end of some AA battery holders.

If every thing if perfect and it still does it then its the cells are crap or have gone crap

If your cells do not get used often they can build up resistance, try discharging/charging them a few times to see if it helps.

Cheers

Have stopped buying NiMh of 2500 & above,
even brandname cells from Sanyo/GP/Duracell etc
do not last more than a yr or 2... before they
show high self discharge and cause chargers to barf.
Charging as pack makes false peaks worse.

Cycling doesn't improve much; I charge cells individually.
Some cells show high internal resistance & won't fast charge.
After charging all are flat again within a fortnight.

Worst thing is I have AAs older than those
back when NiMh were 1800-2300mAh
and most of those are still working fine.

Go buy some "preCharged" AAs eg Sanyo Enerloop,
Sony CycleEnergy, Varta Ready2Use or Duracell PreCharged
and the get much better mileage. Best cells for TX!!

I'm using high capacity Enerloop AAs. They are still performing well after 18 months, which is just as well because you have to hardwire batteries into my radio, and I hate doing that.

i agree with increasing the mv peak , usually i charge these type of cells at 1 amp also not sure but could the charger have a timed peak or time out as well?? a lot do
